Weight?
« on: December 28, 2002, 02:11:29 pm »
I'm looking into making a mame cab, but problem is right now i'm in college and live in an apartment on the 3rd floor. Because of this, i really need to consider the weight as a factor. Although idealy i would like to convert a dead cab, but because of the particle board, this will weigh way too much, right? I am thinking of like 1/2" plywood with 2x4 support beams, but not sure how much this would end up weighing? Any suggestions / ideas?

PS... there are no elevators  :-\

Build it with ultralite MDF.  Its more expensive but MUCH  lighter then standard MDF. Even still the cabinet will quite heavy so I would recommend renting a professional lightweight aluminum appliance carrier that has the retractable hold down straps. Get one of your buddies to help and also remove your monitor to eliminate some weight.
Good luck and happy hernia's ::)

How about a cocktail cab?
If you build a frankenpanel, chances are I don't care for you as a person.

How about a cocktail cab?

I personally have never been a big fan of the cocktail tables... plus in my appartment it's furnished so i can't replace the table that's already there... a standup arcade can fit in a corner in our living room quite nicely though.

How much would an empty (no monitor / most of insides taken out) upright arcade weigh in at? I found an auction that is going to happen in Orlando (about an hour and a half drive from me) on February 1st 2003.

make cabs that comes in 2 pieces(AHEM.....mamestation 2).

However these things dont come easy(i thought about builting one the realized my skills wont do) but you can do a similer one where you can take it apart in 2 pieces just in case when you move.
here is the link.
