Happs Comps?
« on: August 01, 2005, 06:08:27 pm »
I am in the testing phase of my cab and tried out SF2.  I noticed that when I did a waterball it would cause him to jump?  I tested to make sure everything was hooked up properly and it is.  I'm guessing that the huge blocky actuator causes this?

I have replaced the joys on my dedicated Street Fighter Zero cab with comps and they are excellent, couldn't be better for pulling off the comos etc.

These mothers are noisy too.  Do comps all click so loud?

Waterball?

Noisy, maybe.  Depends on the comparison.  The arcade experts around here suggest the Happ Competitions were one of the sticks of choice in the original arcade boxes.  I love mine, slightly better than the supers, but that's really a controversial topic.

Either choice would be fine, although some fighter fans seem to dig the Japanese sticks and buttons (sanwa and ????), possibly because they are less noisy.

Anyway, there are many topics on the subject of these joys.  Turn the music up  :D.

Cheers,
KenToad

I never thought the comps were all that noisy once you got them into the Control Panel.  The wood helps drown out the sound.  If you really want something that is quiet then you should look into getting some P360's.

The Japanese sticks (Sanwa and Seimitsu) are more noisy than the Comps.  Not only are their microswitches more noisy than the cherry switches but because you have to top mount them or mount them on a metal Control Panel there isn't much to block the sound of the switches.

I use Happ Competition Pro's for all my fighting sticks and cabs.  They're my favourite long-throw stick for complex special moves and combos.  No complaints here.  Most fighter fans recommend P360's, but for me the cost increase isn't equivalent to the performance increase.  Not to mention needing to find a 5V source, which isn't always easy when pad hacking.

The noise decreases over time as the sticks "wear in".  But quite frankly, in a busy arcade you don't hear the microswitches clicking.  And in your home gameroom, if you hear the clicking it's a good excuse to turn the game audio up. :)
