« on: December 27, 2002, 06:05:36 pm »
Hi,

I just would like to understand the orientation of peoples monitor (PC or arcade) in their cabinet (ie. Horizontal or Vertical. Some people may even have monitors in they cabinet which they can rotate).

Please provide a response in the subject line as

I agree.  I use a 27" Svideo tv horizontally...so vertical games are just about as big as the real thing.

And for 27" - even the darius shooter thats 3 screens wide look decently sized.  : )

Vertical.  I am using a pc monitor in an old Xevious cab.  The original bezel has a vertical orientation.

21" Sony trinitron pc moniter (horizontal) but an identical cabinet with a vertical moniter is in the works. Too much trouble to design a rotating moniter :P  27" tv would be a solution but I personally don't like the picture that a tv produces.

19 inch horizontal PC monitor.  Vertical games are a tad small, but I am yet to have anyone even comment on it.  Everyone (at least in my experience) is so amazed that you can build these things that they don't care.   ;D

I'm still working on mine, but I plan to have a 27" horizontal.  I'm Playing games on it now and I don't have any complaints about the game play.

  • too many games... too little time....
    • www
I will be using a 21" computer monitor... and plan to have it horizontal.... (the normal way for the monitor...)

one thing to keep in mind is... if you're using a tv or a computer monitor... and you want to mount it so it stand on its side....plz keep a few things in mind....

 - some of them have their main heat exhaust on top (by design)... (like circuit board will be vertical, .... more heat vents on top... etc.)
 - some monitor / tv might have color shift if you put it aside for a while... (like 1/2 hr or so....) and you might have to degauss it....
 - make sure you mount it where it is secure.... cos if they're not designed to be mounted vertically... and you just screw it in.... places where you're leveraging the weight might not be strong enough....

these are a few things I learned from this site...  ;D  ;D
but as long as you watch out... it should be ok....
there are quite a few success cab with vertical mount monitors....

good luck....   ;)  ;D
Another Brilliant mind ruined by education....  :p

I'm with the crowd that puts a 27" in horizontally.  Vertically it looks great, just like the original 19" vertical monitors.  Horizontal games are huge and awesome.

As a side note, K-mart has an S-video capable 25" by Curtis-Mathis.  It measures only 24" in width with the case on, so it should fit in most cabs and deliver a nice sized image in either orientation.  Prliminary tests on the beast conclude that it remembers both power and S-video input states when the plug is pulled as well, but check for yourself before picking one up.  :)

I suck.. 15" pc monitor horizontal

I've got a 20"tv that's just a little too deep to fit, and it doesnt have s-video. The 25" in the post above sounds like exactly what I need, although it'd still be tight
