Reverse settings for 49-way joystick?
« on: July 29, 2005, 12:11:02 am »
I can't remember where I read it or if I read it, but I believe someone came up with the wiring changes to reverse the 49-way stick from left to right. I can only install mine with the contacts on the right otherwise it hits the edge of the CP. I reversed everything in Mame so the stick works, but when I try and play a windows game it is reversed. I would like to hardwire this in reverse so windows doesn't have issues with the stick being backwards.
Anyone have the wiring diagram to do this?

The thread you are thinking of is here:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=37448.msg333628#msg333628

In your case, it is not a question of rewiring, since your X axis is still your X axis, and your Y axis is still your Y axis.   According to u_rebelscum, what you would need to do is run your XD and YD leads through an inverter chip.  (This is a chip that makes a low signal into a high, and a high into a low)  See u_rebelscum's post in the above thread for the details.

My inverter chips just arrived yesterday, and I have already soldered together a small interface board for the chip.  I'm planning on installing and testing the chip this weekend.  I'm in the same boat as you--things are remapped in Mame, but they're pretty funky elsewhere.  (Actually, even within Mame after remapping things aren't perfect--i.e. in the config menus for instance)

I will report back here with the results and possibly photos of the setup.. stay tuned!

I didn't think it would take any extra modification other than swapping the wires on the controller board. You can change the joystick mapping in Mame for Mame menu's.
Excited to see what you come up with.

So far no dice with the inverter chip.  At this point I need to get in there with a meter and verify a few voltages.

I might not get back to my Mame cab this week though.. I'm trying to get my Gauntlet in shape for its arrival at the Cal Extreme this weekend!   ;D
