Yoke and PC games
« on: December 27, 2002, 02:35:23 am »
Has anyone used their yoke to control a pc game like Beachhead 200(0/2.)  Or maybe a pc version of starwars?

I TRIED to use mine for Centipede 3D, but it really works better with a mouse/joystick combo.  I don't see any reason it wouldn't work with just about anything though.  Probably good for flight sims!

Funny you should mention the dual strike.  I just got my first one, and the other is on the way.

I got to thinking about my question.  The beachhead games, are controlled by the mouse.  So I have another question, has anyone seen a yoke hacked into a mouse? Or maybe a yoke, not necessarily "hacked," but a homemade one designed around a mouse?

Oh, and I didn't bid quick enough on the last set of twistygrip plans on ebay.  It went for like 5.50 two or three days ago.  But w/ shipping the winner could have got them direct from www.twistygrip.com new.

Well, with the dual strike, it works as either a mouse OR a joystick (software emulation).  It would be difficult to get the pots of a yoke interfaced to a mouse PCB, so you'd have to make a custom yoke that used optics instead.  It's been done, but it seems like there would be calibration problems (accidentally bump your trackball, and your yoke would no longer be centered.)  Stick with hacking a gamepad that does mouse mode (like Dual Strike or Interact Hammerhead).

When I get a yoke, I am intending to put X-Wing in my cabinet... but the problem is that X-Wing requires almost an entire keyboard full of buttons, and I don't think they are remappable...

It probably wouldn't matter because it would require a complete custom panel anyway...
