Getting ready to move the Arcade (new house)
« on: July 26, 2005, 08:56:25 am »
Just bought a new house. On the upside it will allow me to go from the 15 games I have now to about 35 on the first floor and almost as many in the basement. The pain is moving the ones I have now. I recall wresteling them in 1,2 or 3 at a time when I bought them at auctions and such. Now I get to move them all at once. Other than the Wheeled appliance dollys and such, anyone discovered any secrets to moving them easier? Fortunatly I am only moving about 4 miles away.

Rent a moving truck with a tail gate lift.

Here's something I figured out that takes ALL the effort out of wheeling around a machine, but you'll need a second set of eyes to help.

When you load the machine onto an appliance dolly and tilt it back, don't grab it by the top rung (where you're actually supposed to grab it). Grab it near the cross braces. You don't even feel like you're moving anything. You get much better leverage and you get to use your entire forearm to support the machine rather than just the grip in your hand.

The only problem is that when you grab it so low, you can't see over the top anymore. The only thing you can see is the ceiling. This is where the second set of eyes comes in. You need someone to guide you around obstacles.

Just try it once and see if you like it. That's how I move machines with my brother now. If you don't like it you don't have to do it, but at least try it once.

P.S. Unless the cabinet is a Midway Hanaho, don't trust the wheels on it.
