Hardware Gurus - Hacking an Act Labs PC Gun (Photos)
« on: July 25, 2005, 07:53:35 pm »
I have acquired a second Act-Labs PC Light Gun (NOT the TV version).

I have done a lot of reading and searching about getting two of these to work in MAME.

Here's where I am so far with my set-up:

2 guns plugged in to PC - Daisy chained between the PC and the monitor

     (pc -> Gun1 In/Black Box/Gun 1 Out -> Gun2 In/Black Box/Gun 2 Out -> monitor in)

CPNMouse Driver installed on PC;  both guns using CPNMouse as the driver

CPNMouse utilities show both guns with different IDs

I can use both guns (double fisting) in A51 successfully.  HOWEVER, both guns are showing up as Player 1.  Both triggers use player 1 ammo, etc.

Problem seems to be that the PC version of this gun doesn't have the "switch" that the TV version has to select 2nd gun mode.

From my reading, it seems that all this switch does is change the buttons on the "Gun 2" to mouse buttons 3 and 4 (vs. 1 and 2).

I theorize that if I can just get the trigger on "gun 2" to look like usbmouse button 3, I'll be in business.

I've opened up one of the guns, and would be more than happy to supply detailed photos, etc.

I'm open to experiment!

Anyone out there think we can figure out how to switch the "gun 2" to be mouse buttons 3 and 4 like the TV version can?

Have you tried analog+ mame or noname mame?

I haven't recently (since I only own one gun) but I tried it a long time ago and had it working with the gun and a mouse at the same time.

Sure the version is a little old.  But none/only few of the gun games have changed since the last version of noname mame.
