Ebay has a new rule going into effect August 9th (I think that is the right date) which states that if the seller selects "PayPal" as a payment option within the "Sell Your Item" part of the posting process, then the seller must accept credit card payments (ie: not just bank transfers or PayPal balance payments).   Basically, it seemed to me that I would have to upgrade to a "Premier" account in order to allow the buyer to pay me via a credit card.   No problem until I realized that once I upgrade to a Premier account then all buyer payments (bank transfers, PayPal balance and credit card payments) would require a 3% fee to be paid to PayPal.  Obviously I wanted to stay with my "Personal" PayPal account in which bank transfers and balance payments are free for the seller.

To make a long story short, I sent an email to Ebay asking how I could go about keeping my "Personal" PayPal account while still indicating I accept PayPal as a form of payment.

Here is the Ebay representative's reply on how to do it:

Hello,

Thanks for writing to eBay Billing Support. My name is John and I am happy to be of some assistance to you with your concerns.

If you would like to specify that you accept PayPal as a payment option through the Sell Your Item (SYI) form, please be prepared to accept PayPal payments funded from current balances, from checking accounts,  AND with credit cards.

The reason for this is if you select PayPal as a payment method on the Sell Your Item form, then the PayPal icon on your active listing will include the credit card icons. If you wish to accept PayPal payments but not payments funded with a credit card, PayPal should not be chosen during the listing process through the SYI. Instead you can mention in the terms of your listing that you will accept PayPal payments funded from a checking account, etc.

If you like, you can log into your paypal account and post a manual HTML paypal logo in your item's description (make sure it is one not containing a credit card logo). To do this, please click the following link and sign in to your PayPal account:

I wish you the best of luck with all your eBay endeavours and I want to thank you for contacting eBay Billing Support. Take care.

Kind regards,
John V.
