Go to
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Accessibility Options

Here is all those stupid sticky key options.  I have all the options unchecked in each tab.

J= joystick, and the numbers are the buttons, and how i hooked them up to the IPAC2.

    1  2  3
 J
    4  5  6

is that right?

I think that's setup is most common.  Alot of people remap the buttons and setup ctrlr files to suit.  I would run a game like street fighter and see if the buttons match to what you think they should do (light, medium, heavy punch and kick).  If it does then all is well.

ok, i just played street fighter and metal slug, and all the buttons were there, light punch to heavy punch etc. but theres 1 thing the buttons were backwards. arent the punches supposed to be on top? and the kick buttons on bottom? how i have it set up the punches are on bottom, and when i play metal slug shouldnt it be the top 3 buttons that i use, but its not its the bottom buttons that you have to use. should i re-wire it like this?:

  4  5  6
  1  2  3

That's the way I'm doing it.  Just like the 6-button Genesis controller!   ;D

Seriously, for many games that don't use more than three buttons, having the ones that you do use the closest to your person makes more sense to me.

yes but did you read my past post: the buttons are backwards, so if i wired them like this:

  4  5  6
  1  2  3

that means that on neo geo games it would use the top buttons 4, 5, and 6. why is it like that. is everyone elses like that? the way i have it set up right now is below:

  1  2  3
  4  5  6

and its backwards on street fighter 4, 5, and 6 are the punches, and 1 2 and 3 are kicks, isnt that backwards?

I guess you should wire them so that they re best suited for the types of games you play.

If you play alot of street fighter then you may want to WIRE them

123
456

then REMAP the buttons for Metal Slug so that 456 are "jump" "Shoot" "Grenade" and so forth for the games you play less frequently.

I don't follow what you mean about Neo-Geo using 4 5 6, but MAME "should" be right according to controls.ini:

numPlayers=2

mirrored=1
tilt=0
cocktail=0

P1Controls=8-way Joystick+joy8way
P1_BUTTON1=Light Punch
P1_BUTTON2=Middle Punch
P1_BUTTON3=Heavy Punch
P1_BUTTON4=Light Kick
P1_BUTTON5=Middle Kick
P1_BUTTON6=Heavy Kick
P1_JOYSTICK_UP=Jump
P1_JOYSTICK_DOWN=Crouch
P1_JOYSTICK_LEFT=Left
P1_JOYSTICK_RIGHT=Right

joshbr, did you take account of the fact that the panel was upside down when you wired it ?

Sounds to me like you have the rows reversed *from what you expect* (key remapping aside) -- I've done that a couple of times.

Cheers.

OH CRAP!!!!! your right, it was upside down omg i cant believe i did that, my mistake., ill fix it right away, thanks

but what about what a couple posts up said, that i should remap the metal slug buttons to the bottom ones, 4, 5, and 6?, why would i do that? shouldnt they be on top.

oh yeah and does anyone remember playing metal slug in arcades, i cant remember, if it was:

shoot, jump, grenade   or

jump, shoot, grenade, cause how i have it set up shoot is the first button and it doesnt feel right.

Some (most?) people prefer {EDIT} *not* to to have the lower row of buttons "in the way" ... I personally don't mind, so I (almost) never remap buttons for NeoGeo games (although, to be fair, I have a dedicated NG cabinet).

If you search the forums for '1 2 3' and '4 5 6', you'l probably find loads of discussion.

Cheers.

Remember you can make the controls however you want with ctrlr files.

IE for all neogeo games you could map the controls like:
XX4
123

Streetfighter:
123
456

Double Dragon
X2X
1X3

etc...
