Pinmame and 27" TV (Dare I ask???)
« on: July 18, 2005, 05:46:49 pm »
I've found some old threads on the subject, but all of the links in the threads that show photos and so forth have since moved on or have been deleted.

Anyway, I LOVE pinball, however, it is a waste of my time to mess with PinMame on my arcade cabinet with a 27" TV?  I've yet to run Pinmame at all, so I am relying on you folks here.  My main priority is finishing up my arcade cabinet, but that also means the possibiliy of pinball flipper buttons on the control panel.

I know, I could add them now "just in case" but if I am going to be disappointed with the image quality, I would rather leave the flipper buttons off, and just play Pinmame on my PC (maybe build a little "pinball" control panel for the PC)

Just looking for thoughts here.

Nick

it depends on what you think is disappointing...

I have Visual Pinball on my Mame cab (25" tv) and am getting used to the lower resolution..

However, don't ever play it on a monitor again, because when you go back to playing the pinball on a tv, it will look like crap....

I wish I could play it with 1600x1200 on a decent sized monitor...but I can't afford it, so I settle...

If you have the cash, I say go for a large computer monitor or HD tv...

I have this same setup and was pleasantly surprised by how good vpinmame looked  on my 27" memorex tv w/ svideo output provided by an ati 9200 running at 800x600.  I found that at 640x480, which is what I run everything else at, the tables were to blurry and the pinmame window was too big at standard 2x size.

So unless your expecting to be able to read all the table text and see all the little details, I think it's well worth the time and extra buttons to set it up.  Also as a bonus, I used my left tilt and left flipper as pause and p1 coin in mame and the right buttons for p2 which allowed me to keep my cp more authentic.

You bring up a good question.  How many buttons are supported in Pinmame?  I was thinking start, coin insert, flippers, and plunger, but didn't know there was a "tilt" or "nudge" as you are talking about.  Coin-in and Start could be the same as what they are for the arcade cabinet, but if I can find out what all there is, then I could plan that out too.

Sounds like for graphics I will need to get it set up and just try it.
