Analog to Dual-Strike USB writeup!
« on: March 20, 2002, 02:45:30 am »
OK, due to popular demand, here's my tried and true method of hacking analog arcade controls to a Dual Strike interface.

First, you need a MS Dual Strike.

Great write up!  :D I already hooked mine to a gameport via Jude's Star Wars Hack but this seems easier.

Bump!

(yes this needs to be added to the examples Saint!)

And I just won my first analog joystick on ebay yesterday!!!

BECAUSE NOBODY ELSE BID!!!

$175 happs flight stick for 10 bucks!  And I think I might spend the cash to get the right hand handle for 20 from happs and I will be happy!

btw, a GREAT place to get a DualStrike is on ebay.  They are going between 5 - 9 bucks without shipping.

btw, 1UP, you might consider adding one more thing to your writeup (since I believe you mentioned it worked before) is add the hotswap ability (it does work right?).  Best part about the hotswap, is if you ignore the buttons, then you can get both on a 9pin serial plugs.

Those wires underneith the left/right pot wires are the buttons on the left part of the gamepad?
Mame should see those buttons on the right hand normally, right?  Through DirectInput?

Yeah, I know, just asking.
I like the idea of the positional gun.  Does it aim correctly at all areas of the screen?  even where most joysticks have a "deadzone"?

Urebel showed my hte directx code in mame that I can set the deadzone to 0.  if I can hacka  positional gun (fancy joystick) to mame then I could get it to work with all mame games by acting like a mouse too.
Anyway, I'd rather have the act labs solution if they make it.

btw, for hotswapping, I was more wondering if you had it working with just the pots swapped out.

so I can plug in an analog joystick on one control panel, a starwars yoke on one, and maybe a omega race controller on the last... with only one DualStrike!

Have you tested/tried this?

I hope Act Labs realize they need more than a trigger on those guns.

Yeah, recoil and freedom of movement would be awesome.

I hope they can do dual gun support.  maybe they know somethig about dual mice hacks in win2k/xp.

You could always get one of those small red pushbottons at Radio Shack and run an extra couple of wires to your IPAC.

Question: Analog to Dual-Strike USB writeup!
« Reply #24 on: April 29, 2002, 10:18:03 am »
I finally got my SW yoke, didn't have the wrench to open it, looking at the wires...
I'm trying to figure out which wire does what without opening the yoke.

Black grounds go to connector/plug and connect as one black wire. Other wires come are separated(SW buttons).
There are nevertheless two red wires that interconnect in this plug, other one comes from (visible) left/right pot, I was wondering if the other one is from up/down pot?...and why they are merged as one...Can I connect this red wire for either one of DS pcb "pot red inputs", or do I have to connect them as separate?

More importantly, can I break something if I put SW  wires in wrong places of DS pcb (not counting common/ground) ?

Thank you for your writeup 1UP!
