Inexpensive USB mice ($0.69)
« on: July 17, 2005, 07:08:50 pm »
http://www.txmicro.com/

If anybody's looking to do some mouse hacks, the price is right on these mice (although I haven't tried them, so I can' promise that the mouse hack will work!)  They're selling USB mice for $0.69 apiece.  I've purchased lots of cheap toys at this place, and I've always been happy with their shipping and service.

Have you tried hacking this particular mouse?  Some mice just can't be hacked, with no clear reason why.

Nope, I can't promise that they would work as a mouse hack.  I'll order some, and find out if they're hackable.

If you look closer, you'll notice that if you buy 21 they get more expensive...  One of those must be a mistake.

I was looking at those same mice for possible hacks- seems every surplus liquidator on the net has the same ones.  Nobody has it listed anywhere whether or not they're optical or ball mice, though.

usually when they refer to a DPi or resolution, they're not talking about a ball and a wheel. ;D

The Razor Boomslang was a ball mouse, and was talking 2000 dpi as well.  Admittedly, not a $0.69 bargain mouse, but...

Well then, I'm glad I got my order in while they were so cheap (although if they work for a mouse hack, $1.09 is still pretty darned close to free!).

I'll let you know how they work.  They should arrive in 3 days.

I have a several hundred brand new Kensington ValuMouse 3 button USB (I did take them out of the packaging to make more room in my storage space, but they are brand new never been used) mice that I would be willing to sell for $5 each ($3.85 of that is shipping) shipped priority mail to anywhere in the continental US, if anyone is interested.  I and several others have successfully hacked this mouse for use with trackballs and spinners.  IM or email me if you are interested.  Thanks

Sorry, I didn't see this post.  I weighed the mice and I could fit two in the same box and still come under the weight for the $3.85 shipping, so I would sell 2 mice for $6.15 shipped.

has anyone tried hacking Belkin 3 button mice? I can get them for a buck each locally.

I bought some of the $.69 mice, and I haven't been able to hack it so far.  Like Dirt says, the infrared sensor has 4 legs, so I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with that.  I played with the multimeter and made some uneducated guesses that the legs would  be something like x1,x2,+5v,and G.  When I connected it to the trackball with all 4 wires going to the trackball, I was able to get a slight reaction out of the thing.  If I tapped the trackball in one direction, the mouse pointer would move 1 pixel, and vice versa for the other direction.  However, if I really gave the thing a spin, I would see no reaction from the mouse pointer.

I'm going to post in the main forum to see if anyone knows anything about these mysterious 4 legged sensors.
