Questions on USB driving pedals (conversion?)

I was reading through the steering wheel thread and now have some questions about arcade pedals.  First off, I am building desktop controllers (not a MAME cab) and running Win

I don't really know the answers to your questions, but I have seen a 'Analogue to USB Gameport Converter' for sale at uk electronics supplier 'Maplin' (part UA22Y).  I guess there must be a US equivalent (assuming your in the US!).  It's only

I have also just noticed a different gameport to USB adaptor (part ZP13P), which allows 4 gameport controllers to be plugged into USB and has a 4-way switch.  Also I think the one I mentioned previously can have 2 controllers plugged in...but it's not all that clear.  http://www.maplin.co.uk btw

Thanks Minwah, I didn't know those existed.  Here's a review of one sold by Radio Shack (for the other U.S. readers)

It should do what I want and it's easier than hacking apart a USB stick, although I think I might pass on it after all (or I might wait till I really need it.)  I realized that this acts as a 4-axis joystick, but I can have this with the gameport and a splitter cable, so I can hook up 2 sets of pedals this way.  This would cover everything except 2-player simultaneous driving games with clutch pedals, or 3-player driving games with brakes (if there are any?)  (Where are you, Urebel???)

Anyway, at least now I know it exists if I ever need one.

Of the pedals which come with the USB wheels, do they use a separate USB connection, or do they plug into the wheel?  And in either case, are they single or dual axis?

AFAIK, all steering wheel + pedal combos have the pedals plug into the steering wheel.

AFIAK, all USB pedals are dual axis* (see next question)

Anyone know of a way to make the pedals single or dual-axis switchable in USB mode?

*AFAIK, all dual axis pedals can switch between dual and single from the driver.  Not as nice, IMO, as a hardware switch.

I assume I could either gut a cheap USB joystick or use the pots from 1UP
