It is a pretty specialized controller that's not available for purchase elsewhere.  I think that your "What is wrong with people that they'd pay so much?!!?!" question could be applied to most of us here, after all.

Ahh, I haven't seen that DOT spinner for a while...

The current owner was very gracious and allowed me to hang on to that spinner for a loooong time.  Long enough to create shop drawings from it that are accurate enough for a faithful reproduction.  

There are three pieces to the spinner that would require custom machining, so it may not be a cheap repro!

The biggest problem I've had so far is finding suitable leaf switches for it.  I have yet to find a reliable supplier of that particular style of leaf switch, so the plans may need to be altered a bit to substitute microswitches in their place.
