slikstik quad control panel

Hey folks, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be buying a slikstik quad unit control panel blank to save a few bucks and because i don't mind wiring it up, the only questions i have is near the top, with the 4 way, are the 2 buttons on each side the same?  what's the button below it?  are the 2 on each side of the spinner all hooked to the same 2 buttons? 

is there a problem with where the spinner is? as far as using the trackball for bowling or golf or something?  do you hit your hand often?
