CP Joystick hole gouged my 49-way joystick handle
« on: July 15, 2005, 05:39:07 pm »
Man this sucks. I drilled out a 1 1/2" hole for the 49-way joysticks on my CP and with the long throw on the 49-way's it still hits the edges of the joystick hole. This has caused gouging into the plastick of the joystick handle. I have recently noticed my dust cover is getting clipped by the indent that has been made by hitting the edges of the joystick hole.
Anyone else have this problem? Can you order metal rod joysticks for the 49-way sticks?
Thanks

Timoe

How thick is your Control Panel?

Mine is 1/2" where the 49 way is mounted and I only drilled a 1 1/4" hole.

Uh oh, I hope I dont have the same problem.

Hey Timoe,

I've also got a 1/2" control panel with a 1 1/4" although to be honest I haven't mounted my joystick yet, so I haven't had a chance to play with it .I'll let you know the results when I get around to mounting it to see if I have any similiar problems

my CP is 3/4 thick. The metal handles will work much better.

RandyT says GroovyGameGear will have metal handles soon.

They are ready.  Will try to post them this weekend

On the other thing....normally these are used with metal control panels in the arcades.  One trait that a used 49-way will always have is this wear on the shafts.  The metal panels tear into them pretty good, but I'm a bit surprised that wood would have the same effect.

The new ball-top stainless handles will be better in many ways, this being one of them.

Great news, I emailed Randy yesterday about when the balltops+shafts will be available (please ignore if you post the news here Randy).

I'm holding off drilling the main hole and doing any routing until I get the new shaft...seems like this is causing a few problems...
