USB and PS/2
« on: May 02, 2002, 11:29:48 am »
Hi,

Im successfully using a keyboard hack in the PS/2 port for my cab. Now, I've just bought a logitech wireless keyboard and mouse (from ebay) to go into the USB port so I can use them for admin functions etc.

My question is, will windows recognise both the USB and the PS/2 keyboard (hack) at the same time?

Thanks,

Lee

Yes.

In that lies a problem too.
Have you heard of Analog mame?
It's urebelscum's attempt to allow multiple mice in mame and to see them as seperate inputs.  In win2k you can't seperate them, they are seen as one mouse.  Same with keyboards.

Well that should hopefully be not too much of a problem, as the 2 keyboards will never be used at the same time. One is strictly for maintainence and the other is just for the control panel. Fingers crossed anyway.

Thanks,

Lee

On a related topic, I was considering putting a USB hub into my CP because both my Trackball & I-PAC will be using USB, but I only have one frontside USB port on my PC.

Is there such thing as a two port USB hub?

Just to straighten something out: All windows see the attacted keyboards as one keyboard, and Mame:Analog+ can't get around this limit.

As for using them at the same time, you can do this with only a few problems.  Mostly they are related to: if the same key is pressed on the different keyboards at the same time, same pressed but then not released at same time, and motherboard or USB driver limits.  So though you don't think you will use them at the same time, not much to worry about doing so.

I think they were called USB Y connectors, but I saw one somewhere.  Not much cheaper or smaller than a 4 port compact hub, though.
