I am in ArcadeVGA hell!!!
« on: July 13, 2005, 12:03:57 am »
Im going nuts!  The only thing stopping me from playing my new arcade cabinet is the driver install for my Arcade VGA and getting the resolution down to 640x288(or what ever that low low setting is).

Here are the steps that I have taken...
Uninstalled all former ATI devices and drivers
Installed the Arcade VGA Card
COnnected computer to arcade monitor
Tried to install the driver... keep getting this message "This display driver is not compatible with the display adapter installed in your system"

I went to Ultimarcs message boards... found a link for the old driver (my card was purchased over a year ago)
I manually signed this driver to my display adapter
The lowest I can get my resolution is 640x480... so my arcade monitor is still not configured right.

What am I missing here folks?  ... i know i am a newbie but I think I have tried everything!  =(

FYI... my arcade monitor is just a generic 27" arcade monitor purchased from ebay so I cant get the screen to allign right until the resolution is down to 640x288 (i am getting the screen split in two)

Someone please help... I wanna play some games and see that my hardwork was worth all these headaches.

Not sure what OS you have, but the lowest resolution XP will show is 640x480.  To get lower you need to go into Display Properties > Settings > Advanced > Adapter > List All Modes.  You can then select any mode the video card supports.

Also, 640x480 should be displayed OK on an arcade monitor (if the driver is setup OK) as the ArcadeVGA just displays that mode interlaced (it will flicker a bit but look fine).

My os is XP... I will give this a try when I get home tonight.
I am still confused as to why my monitor wont configure correctly... the best I get is a split screen.

Thanks!

does the card you are using have 2 vga ports?

The original vga card has one port at 15k and the other at standard vga outputs.

It only has one VGA port and one S-Video port.
I purchased it from Ultimarc a year ago so I am not sure if its the old or new version.

there are a ton of apps which can change the res for you.  A good one is quickres.  Its nice because it also has a command line so you can use it in a batch file.

Ok, 1 port usually means a 9200 based card.

I would double check your wiring.

I had a problem with one like that, it turn out to be a bad horz sync.

I double checked my Horizontal Sync connection and it has a good connection to the Breakout cable i purchased from ultimarc.  (The V and H syncs are connected together with my arcade monitor since they dont have separate connections)

Any other suggestions?

I did use the ATI removal tool.

I do not have a Jpac... why would I need one?

Honestly... I think I am going to give up.  Just try and sell my arcade monitor and ArcadeVGA and just connect a TV to my computer.

Thanks everyone for trying to help!

Hopefully I can get a standard TV to work.

Forget that!  Sell your monitor and spend the money on a 27" D9200!  you can get one refurbed usually for $350..thats only like $100 more than a good 27" TV and BELIEVE ME you won't regret it!  The AVGA and D9200 are awesome together...i actually have 3 AVGA and 3 D9200s now (2 of them are 33" though  ;D)
