I'll buy a navy one.  I'll take adjustable, but I'd pay extra for a 7 3/4 fitted.  (7 7/8 if you can get it) ((yes I have a giant mellon of a head))

my first impression was that it's a picture of a fishin' hat with an asterisk on top. It's funny how arcade cabinets are such strong pop culture icons but when you take a detail out of context it's really hard to distiguish. ...just an observation.

And I think that's a valid concern. I'm going to tweak the design a bit to address it. The stick figure will be changed to separate and enlongate the arms (which was previously suggested). That should help regonition a bit. I'm also going to change the rim shadow on the button top to feel wider and lighter so it's less like a 90 deg. edge. Probably also add a light shadow around the edge of the bezel. The embroiderer is currently testing stitch patterns to see if he can separate the bezel, button edge and button top as "satin stitches." This kind of stitch has dimension to it... it's like the puffy sticker of the embroidery world. If he can achieve that along the 3 separate areas I thing the bezel will bulge out very slightly like a rounded surface... as will the button egde. That should also help identify it as a button, I'm hoping.

That said, the "out of context" comment may hold true regardless. So those who can't live with the potential confusion should probably wait until the 2007 design which will be a logo unmistakably recognizable as the rotating restrictor plate of a 4-8 way T-stick Plus. ;) ;D

I'm going to work on the logo this weekend and hold off on the news announcement/ordering until I've finalized the tweaks.

It looks like a start button to me. I like khaki, unstructured, adjustable, so it looks like I'm gonna be a cheap date on this one. :)

Wow!  Looks like I almost missed out.  I haven't been lurking this board as much as I used to and almost missed this post.  Thanks to Saint for posting a news item on the BYOAC home page.

I got two on the last run and still wear them both on a consistent basis.  I got one as the floppy, unstructured and the other was a structured.  I really like them both but if I had to choose a fav, it would be the structured.

Can't wait to see ordering options.  I might get 3 this time...

I may be able to offer a fitted version.... no opening in back.  (though they are around $20 or so if I remember correctly) I'll post a JPEG with style and color options as soon as I can.

A fitted hat normally costs around that amount, so that's seriously NOT an issue, if you were thinking that it was.  For something custom and related to this for us, I'm of the opinion that $30 wouldn't be out of line.  Naturally, I wouldn't WANT to pay that much, and would DEFINITELY like it to be more in the $20 range, but I just wanted you to know your price point there isn't outrageous.

If I may throw my opinion in here, I think it would look better if it were set up like the Nike hats (and others) currently out there.  Although they don't have a web address on the back, the placement of a third embroidery element I believe would look sharper on the SIDE (the BYOAC), and have the URL follow the curved opening in the back.

For a visual example of what I mean, here you go:

For the URL, you have it down pat from the last hat.

As an aside, something like this should never be made for BYOAC:

and lastly, I'll take one in khaki or navy....haven't quite decided what color, only know that I want one.

I think everyone should get theirs personalized.  If you ever wear it to a tradeshow or auction I will know who the hell you are.

Just a suggestion.

Pixel, just a thought, the atomic logo would be very cool on a hat, is that too complex for stiching?  Regardless I am still in for 2.

Santoro- Yeah, the atomic logo was the design that initially got me interested in running the first hats. Unfortunately it was deemed too complex to stitch without getting into massive quantities. I guess it would have to be run on different equipment or something. Another BYOACer has some great embroidery contacts, so I may discuss running it in the future with him, probably to coincide with the launch of my website this fall (gotta have something non-Mission Control related to offer).

AD- I'll check into the price. I'm sure it's doable, just may be a little pricey few bucks or so...

If we can't order them with our handle on them, you can take it to one of those small shops in the malls which does the embroidering on hats (or atleast they have a couple at my local mall) and they will be able to do it for a few dollars.

I'll be posting a news item any day to officially open the ordering process. I'll leave it open for a week or so then send the order in to the embroiderer. Turn around time after that is up to them.

my first impression was that it's a picture of a fishin' hat with an asterisk on top. It's funny how arcade cabinets are such strong pop culture icons but when you take a detail out of context it's really hard to distiguish.

I've been thinking a lot about how to avoid this. I showed the button logo to a coworker and a neighbor. Coworker is a bit young to remember arcades, neighbor is not a gamer but the right age to remember.

Results:  Co-worker's first impression... hat. Neighbors first impressions... "cake on a plate... or maybe a button of some sort."

So I've been trying to add detail to the design to make it more immediately recognizable, but I've found it remains too abstract out of context no matter how much detail is added. And the detail detracts from the iconic look. So.... my thought is to bring it into context in a way that keeps it feeling like a logo.

BYOAC on the front won't help. But the URL absolutely does. So unless there is a widespread revolt, this will be added to the design. If this is a deal breaker for anyone, I really apologize. :'( No orders have been taken so there's no need to retract anything... (you won't be billed  ;) for having posted interest )

Initially I wanted to avoid putting anything other than the logo up front. But I think this layout keeps the clean look and really helps the button function as a logo. I am absolutely determined to avoid any confusion on what the hat represents this time around.  ;D

Are the grey "lines" on there to represent shading of some sort?  I don't follow you on that picture.  *edit* looking at it again REALLY makes it look like a hat now!  All it needs is a pimp feather on the side and we're good to go! ;D

I DO like adding the "arcadecontrols.com" underneath it....if this is the choide, can we put BYOAC on the side, leaving the back clean?

There is no shading. The white is solid white thread, and same for the black. The image comes from the embroiderers digitzing software. I'm guessing that shading in his image is to make it look like it has sheen... which it will. So take that image with a grain of salt. It's the embroiderers equivalent of my mockups.  ::)

BYOAC would still be on one side. There will be an option to embroider your BYOAC id on the back for an additional $5 ($4 cost + $1 customizing surcharge since lots of order customization=lots of database/order maintainance time for me. Hoping to discourage too much of that but I'm happy to oblige those who really really want it.)

It's the embroiderers equivalent of my mockups.  ::)

Why would he possibly need to bend plexi for hats? ;)

THAT sounds sweet as all get out!  Will the other lettering be white as well, or on the lighter hats (khaki is what I'm wondering about) would it be done in black?

Personally I don't like the url on the front.  It turns the hat into a billboard instead of a nice simple design.  And honestly if anybody doesn't know that it's an arcade button, who cares?

There are a lot more abstract designs on clothing intentionally made so only people that watch X tv show or listen to Y band or follow Z sport know what they reference.  I don't see a problem with this because if somebody doesn't recognize the button, they probably spent very little time in an arcade and wouldn't care about the hat anyway.  This is the same reason I would prefer no text on the hat at all.
