I took a trip to Hagerstown yesterday, and picked up a cab to start working on.

Hey Stobe-

Glad to hear you found something you wanted for the right price!  You didn't mention what the price was?  Get a good deal?

Do you remember if they had any sit down/cockpit cabs left?  Particularly drivers?

He had a few pole position cockpits, but said they were sold.  There was another one or two upstairs, but I didn't ask about them.  He said the cockpits were going for around 150.

He was selling just about any cab for $65 depending on what was inside.  I paid a little more since there was a new monitor inside.  It would have been 65 if he took the monitor out.

It was a good deal for me, since it appears to be a very quick convert for me (time is worth money, you know).

oh man... $150 for a Pole position cockpit... I so wish I had a basement to put that in. I have been wanting one of those for sooooo long. I guess Im just going to have to wait for when I do... I hate waiting.

If you have a NEW arcade monitor then plunk down the change for a Jpac and arcadevga, anything else will be second best.

Can you get into the cabinet at all?

Can you get into the cabinet at all?  If so, you can usually use a screwdriver to disassemble the locks from the inside.

Ya, I can get inside.  The coin door is open, and the back panel has a lock on it but was secured by only screws.  I was wondering mostly about the coin box, since it appears to be completely enclosed inside.  (Where the coins drop in).

Drill it, you'll have to buy a new lock anyway, and trying to pry it open from the front is just gonna damage it.

Or, sometimes (if this is an over/under door), you can get the whole door out of the machine, at which point that coin vault just pops off of it, and then you can take the lock apart from there.

You might want to take the coin door one apart first.  So you can see what you can destroy without worrying. 

Then there are a few people who are selling locks (Peale is I think and someone else, don't remember the name).  They are about 4 - 5 bucks shipped each.  Nice to have them all keyed together.   Its worth a buck extra to have ones that the key can be removed in the open position.

And I would vote for at least the arcadevga.  You can get away without the jpac.... but you will be buying a keyboard encoder anyway.  So you will have to rewire, speaker hack, and the jpac has some video stuff that you can buy seperately.  But I think you will find that the 'extra' price for getting the jpac instead of a ipac + extras + rewiring isn't worth it at all..   

Its also VERY nice to be able to throw an original board in your machine and run it.  I've passed on some really cool boards for cheap because I can't play them (when I was building my cab, no jpac, no arcadevga...  It was trident3d or no windows... and I didn't want to go there... to many great windows only emulators / arcade friendly apps)

Here's the first pics.  Forgive the terrible photography, I had very little space to work with when shooting.

Here's the profile.  I've used a little Goof Off on the red paint, and did not see any Food Fight art underneath.

Also, a pic of some damage on the top of one of the sides.  This is pretty much the worst spot on the whole cab.  Anyone have an idea on what I could do with it?

I didn't see any (yet I didn't go in with a flashlight yet).  And when I questioned Lloyd's son about keys, he searched real quick inside the cab and said I'd probably have to replace the locks.

No biggie for now.
