Two Questions
« on: July 07, 2005, 01:52:28 pm »
Alright.... I was finally able to get a cabinet to use and now I have a few questions.

1. The cabinet has a monitor (that is probably dead, but who knows). I was wondering if there's procedure on removing it, I do not plan on tinkering with it so I'd rather not have to discharge it.

2. I'm probably going to be using a television for video output since I'm sorta low on cash. I was wondering if you guys can recommend a graphics card (that doesn't break the bank) that has good composite/S-video output.

Well I've never used a TV in cabinet so I don't have much advice there, but removing the monitor is as simple as unclipping all the wires, unbolting/unscrewing the mounts, and pulling it out. You don't need to discharge to remove the monitor.

1. Just don't touch any of the electronics. Stay away from the big red wire and suction cup. Handle the monitor in a safe, intelligent manner (proper leverage and footing so you don't drop it) and that's all you need to worry about.
NO MORE!!

I use a 128mb PNY vid card w/s-vid out which uses NVIDIA drivers.  It runs thru a 24" RCA TV I got scratch 'n dent.  I've been very satisfied with the results, but have never compared it to cabs that use other vid cards.  I got this card on sale for $59 at Circuit City.

I have used these MSI Radeon 9250 cards in two Mame machines with TV-Out and they are really good and very cheap.  $38 and $1.50 shipping from Newegg.com.  The good thing with these is the TV-Out even displays during the bios, which some other cards don't.
