2P CP layout
« on: July 07, 2005, 05:07:22 am »
This is what I've come up with

Any tips about placement of parts ? Or anyone have another template for 2P CP with 7 buttons and spinner/trackball ?

Seems ok, just a couple of things you may want to think about.

The buttons look slightly too far apart to me, you may want to do a simple mock up of the button placements to see how easy on the hand they are.

Also the spinner may get in the way of the trackball. You may want to move it further up or to the left.

Just my $0.02

Im in the process of designing a 2P CP myself at the moment. It has a trackball but no spinner. My design is also in the very early stages and is likely to change.

You may want to open the attachment as the lines dont show properly when it is just displayed in the thread. Dont want to hog your thread but if you want there is more info about my CP here

Is that to scale, because the 7th button is almost exactly below the joystick, I think more distance apart would feel better.

Separate topic, but does anyone know if we can import other controls into the designer? I want a 4 1/2" trackball for one of my control panels.

Otherwise I would say the 7th button is too close to the joystick. However, I would do a cardboard mockup to see if that's just a visual thing. It's a whole separate thing to actually put your hands on the panel and feel the layout.

Also make sure that your left joystick will have enough space.  One inch from the left side probably isn't enough and if your control panel overlaps your box  you will have even less space.

Nothing like personal experience to teach you what does and doesn't work.
