Intellimouse - USB or PS2?
« on: July 06, 2005, 02:52:55 am »
Think im going to get an intellimouse to hack for use with a trackball.

There are availiable in USB and PS2, can either be hacked and if so which is the best one to go for? USB would be an advantage for me if possible.

A speedy answer would be great as there are a couple on ebay ending soon which I may bid on.

Thanks.

Up to you really, I hacked a PS/2 one (cause I had one), but many people hack USB mice (Oscars are USB).

From reading this ( http://tscherwitschke.de/mouseratechecker.html ), it seems PS/2 mice can be tweaked to outperform USB...

Edit: I just tried that mouse rate program on my work pc (ps/2 intellimouse)...with the rate set to 100hz the program indeed reports 100hz...but with it set to 200hz the program reports an average of 155hz.  Still higher than the supposed 125hz of a USB mouse.

Not sure how much this affects things in MAME, but perhaps worth a bit of testing...
