That is a debug version for you to try. When you click a letter it will confim the letter then tell you where it found the letter and how many covers it searched for that letter.

If you post back what is said on a few button presses (Different letters) i might be able to see where the problem is.

Few problems tho. Sometimes when I open the application the HDD grinds away for minutes on end for no apparent reason, in this time my pc is basically locked but (moves extremely sluggish) which it shouldnt (sempron 2400+ w/512mb DDR). Sometimes opens straight up. Wierd.

The other problem im having is that the aspect ratio on the 'Now Showing screen' seems to be cuttin the tops and bottoms off my video clips and karaoke clips. Any way to have an option to alter this, not sure if its happening to anyone else or just the way my clips are encoded maybe.

Also cant seem to get the thumbnails for the video clips to work. Im assuming that it is thinking they are mp3 style files as it is also saying 'No Tag' for these.
It shows the 4 folders as it should, and has a thumb for this, but is there anyway of having a view under the folder of maybe 6x thumbs (1 thumb for each video clip)? something similar to how the MP3 'main' page is listed. If you catch my drift.

BTW.. my karaoke mp3+g songs are also showing up as 'No Tag', not sure if it hasnt been implemented yet or possibly the tags are wrong, havent had a chance to look at it yet

Each button pressed gives the right letter. But in all cases, it says 1 Cover Searched.

You don't have random play turned on do you? I think this is to do with that, it's still buggy which is why i have re-written it and it should be fixed in the next release.

No it's not you, i am also seeing the same behaviour. I will get to work on this and hopefully have it fixed for the next release.

The video clips do work in the same way as the mp3's, each folder will show a cover. If you want more covers then you will have to split them into more folders. I put each artists videos in a seperate folder and that works great. As for the TAG issue you have to tag none MP3's using the supplied tagger (The same as you do in The PC Jukebox, the tagger is actually compatible) BETATAG.EXE you are looking for. This creates a .TAG file that contains the tag info.

On the MP3+G files it reads the tag from the MP3 so if these are nott agged then it will show no tag. To be honest most of them tend to come untagged, i am slowly working my way through tagging mine.

Hope that cleared a few things up, a couple of bugs and a couple of usage quirks.

Sorry for the lack of updates but as there has been no bug reports i have not had much to fix

I am sure this will change, anyway i have now added the ability to turn off tabs that are not used. I will post up a link tonight when i get back home.

Quick question. I run two different sound cards on my system. Is there anywhere in your program to choose which sound card to use or is the Windows default the only choice?

You would be better off getting the last full package i released and then just copying over the latest EXE. I know i did change some database stuff a few versions back so to be on the safe side you might want to get the full install and then just update the EXE.

What's NEXT
I will be working on adding the few missing options to disable the TABS (There was a bug so i didn't include it in the last release) and also attempting a few speed up's to the code ready for a weekend release.

Following that i am hoping to get a semi working skinning tool out to help people create some skins.

Then i will look at implimenting peoples suggestions so if anyone has any please get them in early to give me time to organise what i can get in and what i need to research. Obviously if there are no suggestions then i will just be adding stuff when i think of it, due to the apparent lack of bugs updates are now slowing down however i am still 100% commited to the development of the software and i do check here at least twice a day so feel free to contact me regarding any issues.

Too many 'corrupt' mp3's

If I select a dir which with no sub-dirs that has mp3's in it (say 1 album) it says it finds no mp3's and then crashes out.

Main program:

(and in library) lots of my mp3's are scanned as having really odd characters like

Yep this is a bug, i think i have fixed this now.

Well it works fine (generates the library) but after about 5 bars of progress, no more bars get drawn. I note one the mp3 listed in the boxes at the bottom of the screen (which stop updating along with the progress bar include the odd characters).

I guess the odd characters could be to do with the mp3's which contain frames that are not supported. This could be giving problems.

As for the sorting of the database it should sort by artist, this is how it has to be sorted for jump to artist to work. You can't jump to artist if it was sorted any other way. I could sort by album name but this would cause the jump to artist not to work. Which it sems in your case it is not working.

If you run the config and already have a database file there then it will append tot hat file, but as you say this seems to give odd results so i will look at adding a database update function to cater for this.

Hope that has cleared up a few questions for you, it's really late here i will update the reply tomorrow.

ok, maybe I need to have another play. I may have slightly messed up my database - if I rebuild it pointing at the same dir, will it append that? ie end up with double entries?

also almost all my mp3's have v1 and v2 ID tags (origally I using programs that only support one or the other, so I copied a lot of the data from one to the other. This could be part of the problem I will try and check.

Suggestion: Would be very handy to have the ability to specify certain "artists" that are not sorted by Surname. eg. "Various Artists" - I'd prefer this sorted under V personally. In fact not really sure how'd I like this displayed - almost be preferable to have the album title instead.....

Various Artists is sorted under V... It automatically detects if the artists are different on a CD then gives that CD the artist name of "Various Artists" and it should be sorted under V. The only way to check is to recreate your database, with the version you have you cannot append to any of the databases you make if you do they will be corrupt.

I will however release a version tonight that will allow you to append if you need this funtionality.

As for the IDV1 and IDV2 tags i use both, i think the problem is yours have frames (Feilds) in them that i am not currently supporting. I know i had trouble with a few of mine that contained embedded album art. As i don't use this i removed it ad then thwey worked fine, i am not suggesting you do this as you may use this artwork but it was just something i notice. Hopefully in the near future i will have better ID tag reading.

OK, I finally had a chance to put the software on my juke.
Some specs first : 900 MHz Athlon, 512 Mb RAM, 3D Rage IIc AGP and a SB Live with windows 2000 Pro.
I love the look but It's just too slow on this machine. Using the six album (4 is disabled?) It takes over 30 sec. to display the album after touching the cover. Guests keep asking if its locked. This is not meant to be criticizing just letting you know, 900 is too slow!
I'm open to help you test future releases. Just let me know.

All MP3s are on a local HD. Cover browsing is much faster by comparison, I can't get a 2 count before it changes.
Also, I'm using the database
My collection is comprized of MP3s from many different sources. Some have tags and some don't. I'd prefer not to use tags at all.
The collection is in the format : artist/album/00-track.mp3 so I haven't had the need to tag.
So... can I get rid of the lag without the tag?

Yes and no.. You can't at the moment as it auto checks for the tag, however i can add an option to display filenames in the track display in place of the tag on the next release. That should solve the issues you are having, however without displaying the tag it will be hard for people to know which song is which.

Ok, the database file still isn't being deleted. Made the same mistake I made last time and Freebox just froze on loading. I just deleted the .rec file and am regenerating the library. Should know the results soon enough.

30 minutes to load now 28000+ songs, not too bad.

Why can't I turn off the second monitor background thing that shows up behind the main screen when not in full screen mode?

Everything else seems to be functioning.

btw...I just noticed the individual volume setting for random mode. NIce touch! Great for an attract mode type setting.

I created the database. I still have the lag. And interestingly enough it lags when I navigate the side buttons Eg, Historyand top 20.
I'm running 129 I think. I'll uninstall and install the latest version and report back.
Also, When its running, can you tell what version it is? I couldn't find the version anywhere . Maybe you should put a number in the options so we can tell if we are up to date. Great job with the updates, I can't keep up

Done.... However i need to sync the application version number with the release version number. The next version will be 1.3 and this will be reflected on the splash screen and also on the options screen. I am also looking at adding a stats screen if i get change that tells you how many albums you have in the database and how many videos etc...

Update #2:
Reinstalled... No change.
One oddity though, I have 90 mp3's in the directory and after building the database it said 90 bad! Everyone of them plays fine in all programs including freebox.
Also my hard drive is NTFS in case it makes any difference. I'll keep trying different things and get back if there is any change.
