Definately in database mode, built the librar from the config.exe program.

Speed is not an issue - it starts up in less than 10secs with 6000 mp3's. (I've got 1gig ram, Athlon 3200+)

I've attached my startup pic - all blank. This is a differnt dir with 1000 mp3's, no pics, but there is no pic, and when you click, no song listing...?

Ok i am not 100% sure what has happened here but i can see you are using a skin that is no longer included. In the past couple of versions the default (Blue) skin and the Orange skin have been dropped due to using images from The PC Jukebox. This is why you have no logo displayed on your screen or any back drops... Try changing the skin to either Metal or Alien and then see how it all works. It loads with a missing skin but i can't guarentee that everything will work.

This is also why the imagenotfound.jpg can't be located, quite how this happened i don't know. If you are still having trouble you might be best backing up the freebox alpha folder and then re-installing. It will be the freebox.ini that is screwy if anything, however re-setting the options and saving should get everything back to normal.

Something that I think would be better to add instead of the video feature is a Karaoke feature that would act as a hoster program for MP3+G karaoke files. You already have the dual screen support in there so that the touch screen could act as the track selection screen and the lyrics could be sent to a tv/ 2nd monitor. Obviously a lot of work but would make this killer.

The vidoes are displayed on the now playing screen if you have not set it to dual monitor otherwise they show up on the second monitor. Click on the now playing section top left of the jukebox to see this screen. The video tab isn't used yet but it will be in the next version, i should also have the corrupt mp3 thing sorted by then as well.

As for CD+G there is very little info around on playing these files but i will see what i can do.

Cool buddy.. thought i was going crazy because i couldnt get anything to show up on the videos tab.

Once again, fantastic work on the software

EDIT: Just got my videoclips working. FANTASTIC. Very happy how its coming along. This is pretty much exactly what im after for my juke.

Just a quick one though.. when you get the 'videos tab' working, will you just be able to leave them named "Artist - Song" or will you have some other way of naming?

This would been very hard, because the CD-G format is not puplic released (maybe because of patents). The software may have a very high lincense fee, so we may never have a free software to doing kareoke.

But....

A Another way to do, could been convert from a CD-G to AVI, using this software (not tested): http://www.tricerasoft.com/karaoke_software/CDG_to_AVI_Conversion_Tool.html

It a lots easier to sync a AVI file to a MP3 (wich is a little cheat, but better than nothing)....

I'm not talkign about CD+G. I'm talking about MP3+G. People would just use other tools to convert their CD+Gs. There are other free programs that do PC karaoke.

The tool support mp3-g files too, and then convert it to avi. All it does is convert the graphics part to a avi file alone.

We still need to get some info about the file format and a test cd-g (or mp3-g), before it can been impleted.

UPDATE:

MP3+G and CD+G: This will not be added in the near future i am afraid, it is just too damned hard to support. There are only a couple of players i know that can play these and i don't want to have to piggy back on thoose. If you convert them to videos as mentioned before then obviously they will play already as music videos.

Video Tab: This should be working for the next release which i am hoping to get out later today. So you will have the videos in there own section. It's taking a while but i am sure i will get there today.

Whats New:

Fixed up the album view now so it is no longer checking the MP3 tags at all when running in database mode. This has made it a lot quicker to browse through the album covers, especially when 12 are displayed. The only thing that slows it down is the image loading and this is down to the size of the image. I don't recommend having thoose any larger than 320x320 however your milage may vary

The videos tab will work just the same way as the music tab. So you will see covers and click them and a track list will be displayed. I thought this was the most consistant way of doing it.

Sounds great. Will the music video 'cover' be generated, or would you just take a screenshot of the video and name it blahblah.jpg (if the video is blahblah.avi)?

Well I wouldn't say it loads quicker. $:-\$

I like the idea of it flying through the various mp3's and filling in the fields while it's recreating the library, but, at one point, it just froze on a particular song. Now, it was still doing it's thing, because I had activity on my network switch from my PC to the server, but I wonder if it just stopped on the first "error" it encountered and didn't continue to populate the fields?

Also, on launch, it takes considerably longer now? Don't know if it's because the first time, but it's still trying to load after 5 minutes.

It certainly shouldn't take that long to load. I had fixed up a load of stuff to improve the loading speed so i don't know it's taking longer for you but i will take another look at it now. If anything it should actually load quicker

As for the halting on skipping through the mp3's it did that to me, to be honest i forgot i left that bit in it was debugging for me really.

You are right something is up, quite what i don't know.... Did you delete or rename your existing records.rec file before building the new one? Try this new version with the database you have however if it take longer than 5 minutes to load i suggest rebuilding the database. Don't forget to rename or delete the old database first.

Anyway here is the build straight from the current source see how you get on with this one.

Ok regenerating the library. I whacked the existing records.rec which looked to have doubled in size. An append in stead of regenerate perhaps on the last try? Suggestion: on pressing generate library, whack the old library.

Ok, it finally loaded. But, can't use forward or back on the album view, and it's not starting at the beginning of the alphabet.

Jump to artist is also not working.

This would be far easier on msn or irc LOL... I know why none of that stuff is working it thinks you only have 1 page of albums. Why it thinks you only have 1 page i don't know, how many albums did you build it with? At the moment i am just working on the karaoke stuff but that can wait as it sounds like you have a major bug and i would like to fix that for you first.

General
I have got the video tab working now. You need 2 database files, one called RECORDS.REC for the music and one called VIDEOS.REC for the videos. It is all working sweet for me however i manually renamed the one file to VIDEOS.REC In the release i will add another button to the config so you can build either the videos or music database.

Now to tidy this up and fix the config for the videos.rec and i can post up a release.... After that i will start work on the karaoke tab. If anyone can give me some bug reports back on the last version that would be great as it's clearly not working for ninja episode and i need to see if this an issue effecting everyone before i proceed with the karaoke stuff....

Karaoke (MP3+G)
As i mentioned above the control will cost $299, i will release it with the demo control which is 100% functional but you get a watermark over the screen.

Why bother then?
Well if i get it all completed with the demo control to register it just involves me adding the serial number into my code and it becomes full. That way if any of you guys think it is worth $299 then maybe we can have a whip around to pay for it or alternativly i can add a registration box to the software and you can pay for it yourself and enter the serial via the software to give yourself the full version. I am not making a dime from this and i wouldn't be if we brought the control either aside from gaining a $299 control i suppose? I know that it is not very likely any one will want to stump up an money for the control so i think we will all be stuck with the water mark :p

Sorry for any typo's it's 4:30am and i am a little tired, this jukebox will be the death of me.

Oh yeah and singing along to karaoke at this time in the morning didn't go down to well either

I tried to use that, but it seems like that although it works fine for media player it won't play in the jukebox under active movie. It plays the mp3 but no graphics. Thought that might have been a free way to do it

I have now got very basic thing to work (it actuelly display some text and color them fine), but I need more CD-G (I have only one), but it need a lotsmore work before a release (with my Arcade Music Box of cource, but later I made a command line support). It still missing the scrolling and other few things.

I used the full library, 2000+ albums. It says 1/358. Oddly enough, the forward and back buttons are working this morning, but the Jump to Artist is still disabled.

Well as you can see i have got it working using an OCX file i found on the web. It would be nice to code it myself and have it but i just don't have the time and to be be honest probably the skill to make an ocx of my own to support it.

Here it is, with VIDEO and KARAKO working... The VIDEO tab requires you to have VIDEOS.REC and you need to make KARAOKE.REC for the karaoke, it's late and i can't be bothered to re-code the config.exe now to name them for you so you'll have to do it manually.

Also the search doesn't work for the karaoke, it's not implimented yet i just wanted to show off the karaoke stuff...

Included in the set up zip is the directx codec for the CDG files. You need to install this if you want the mp3+g files to work.

Also make sure you mp3+g files have a tagged mp3, just like the music the mp3's need to be tagged to get the best results.

Sorry if this makes no sense or i have missed stuff out i am falling aslep at the keyboard here. Anyway you guys asked for karaoke so it is in, i need bug reports gallore now so we can get it all running as stable as possible.

Hey there Barcrest,

The new version seems to be only trying to pick up avi files, and not mpg,m2v,mpeg etc.. files. I might not have noticed before, but now it only seems to find 1 of my directories with 115 avi clips in it and ignores the other directorys which are filled with mainly mpg files.

Any ideas?

Thats the spec i am using for searching.. What is the directory stucture? It could be to do with that. I am having a quick check of the config.exe now i'll let you know if i find anything.

You are correct, out of my 800+ Music Videos it found 120

I will get on it later as the inlaws are around and i have not shown my face yet LOL Hope to have it fixed by the end of today.

No worries buddy. Yeh i had 627 files in the directorys

It seems like only the videos of dir1 actually showed up, didnt cascade to check the other dirs on mine. Might help you troubleshoot

For some reason i can't access the internet properly here at work? It is a provider issue anyway so there is nothing i can do to fix it. So anyway because of this i can't work on the juke here so i am heading home to continue work on it there. Hopefully i can get an updated and working CONFIG.EXE out at some point this afternoon.

Finally found what was wrong it was my search filter...

*.mp3;*.wmv;*.wma;*.wav;*.mpg;*.mpeg;*.avi

The ; was missing after *.wav so no wav files or mpg files were found... This didn't effect mp3's so you only need to get this new config.exe if you are using videos.

Man you work to fast. The Karaoke's not that big a deal. There are other good apps out there like Sax and Dotty's but great work none the less.

I used the FREE opensource directX codec, it's bundled in the zip. This works fine with no water mark and no $299 to spend

Oh yeah the alphabet comes up, but when I press a button, nothing happens.
