  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hi. I am just about done with my new cab. I hooked up the pc to play test. And as soon as I plugged in the speakers my screen starts vibrating and getting pink and green spots. I used pc speakers placed below the marquee. I thought that all pc speakers were magnetically shielded. ??? Am I wrong? Maybe I just bought crappy speakers. They were half price at staples.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Ron

I have a set of speakers that attach right on my PC monitor with no problem. Are you using an arcade monitor or a PC monitor. If an arcade monitor, you may need to by a degaussing coil to get rid of those spots on the screen. Yoyu can get em at radioshack

I'm not sure if you are talking about raw drivers or if you have speakers that are in enclosures, but magnetically shielded speakers are typically shielded by applying a second "bucking" magnet to the back of the driver to counter the magnetic field of the voice coil magnet. Both magnets are usually covered with a ferrous cap to further direct the field.

If you can see the back of your drivers and there is a raw magnet visible, chances are they are not magnetically shielded. The probability of permanent damage to your display is slim as long as the
