Multiple buttons into Dreamcast gamepad hack?
« on: December 17, 2002, 05:43:58 pm »
I know it's possible to (for instance) hook two microswitches to the same input on a sidewinder hack or ipac if you wanted two joysticks with the same controls or something like that.

In much the same way, would it be possible to hook multiple microswitches to the same input on a DC gamepad hack? I'd like to  hook arcade controls and a Nintendo controller hack into the same DC gamepad. Basically, most of the inputs would be shared between the arcade controls and the NES buttons. (BTW I would be hacking the buttons of the NES pad directly to the DC gamepad, so they would essentially be digital microswitches.)

I would probably have two 9 or 15 pin plugs on the front of the arcade control panel that I could plug the NES controllers into. Do you guys think this would work?

Thx,
EA

no..i tried using switch box...it worked but SLOW..means i press something and it registers after 3 seconds or so.

you can use 15 pin(doesnt matter 15 or 25 or whatever) molex connecter the switch the controls manually.thats how i have it now because i wanted my panel to be universal just in case i wanna add new interface.all i gotta do is buy 15 molex connecter then hack the interface(whatever i might wanna add) and thats it.

you can also use 15 d-sub the swith your interface manually.

What you're talking about is using one set of controls with more than one interface, what I'm talking about is using multiple sets of controls (arcade and hacked NES pads) with a single interface. I want to hook them both up to the same hacked Dreamcast gamepad.

Has anyone tried hooking up more than one button to the same input on a DC gamepad before?

I'm sorry SNAAAKE, I still think you are smoking crack on this one...  :)

But, you'll be pleased to know that I have given up on the idea of using a switchbox, but not for these reasons...  I just decided I wanted to only use one interface for the sake of simplicity, and am just using PSX pads now, and PSX/USB and PSX/DC converters to switch back and forth...
