Trackball
« on: June 30, 2005, 08:38:52 pm »
I am totally new to the idea of building my own cabinet. I have done some research for controls, but come up empty when it comes to trackballs. What is the cheapest possible way to add an arcade type trackball to a MAME system? I'm really looking to play games along the lines of Centipede and Missile Command.
Thanks

Ultimarc.com sells a 2.25" trackball for $35.  That's the cheapest I've seen.  I never tried e-bay but you might have some luck there.

does it come with the parts to interface it? I've seen Happ trackballs on ebay go for $10, but they dont have anything to interface to the PC

Ohhhh ya want an interface too?  :)

Yeah, well that'll add another $40 new.  I never shopped for used ones but you might find something on the BYOAC buy/sell/trade/forum.

I purchased and installed a 2-1/4" trackball via PS2 which does away with the extra interface.

I am disappointed with my trackball, in my opinion 2-1/4" just doesn't make the grade. If I could do it again I would install something bigger even if I had to order it from overseas.

I say save the cash and get a decent size which will make game play more enjoyable.

just out of curiousity, how much did it cost? I would rather get a 3" ball, but my cash level may not allow that.

I am in OZ so the price is really no true indication for you, but for what it is worth the trackball and mounting plate cost me $140.00 which is about $110.00US.
