Help!!!
« on: June 28, 2005, 05:11:41 pm »
I purchased a volume dial potentometer from radio shack, where do I solder the wires on, and which pins do I use

There are 3 pins on the bottom, and 3 pins coming out of the side.

Was there no diagram on the package?

If you're going to make me guess, I'm going to say you've got a stereo volume control. That means you'll have different pins for different audio channels. The first pin of the first set corresponds to the first pin of the second set and so on. Either that, or the pins work in reverse. The first pin of the first set corresponds to the last pin of the second set. The volume knob would be put inline with the audio output. The remaining pin from each set would be ground. (That's all based on my guess of how a volume potentiometer WOULD work if I'd ever used one.)

You can find it out yourself with an ohmmeter if you have one. Just test the resistance between pins as you turn the knob. If you get a changed then those 2 are correct. Otherwise change it up and keep testing.
