WTB: AN ARCADE CABINET FOR JAMMA
« on: June 28, 2005, 09:37:53 am »
Is there anyone in the southeast (maybe pickup) or US (for ship) that has an arcade cabinet? (heck everyone in this forum does) Does no necessarily have to work perfectly. I'm looking for a project to bring my skills and understanding of the machines up. Most intrested in a galaga, pacman, or frogger. Something basic and in that era would be the best.

Thanks alot,
Ben

I would start with a JAMMA compatible machine first, if I were you. It's just a suggestion. That way, instead of learning one machine, you learn thousands. Plus, they can be several times cheaper because even broken classics can be expensive.

Are you looking for something broken to fix? Or are you looking for something working to study?

I've got a garage full of machines in various conditions, but I'm in Dallas and I don't know much about shipping big stuff like that.

Ya you are right I should probably start with a Jamma cabinet. I'm looking for something that powers up but has things broken like sound and lights and stuff so I can learn to fix it up.

Shipping would be probably a little to pricy from Dallas. But if I bought the cab. for a steal shipping might not be as bad.  ;)

I could probably get you a great price on a machine with a busted monitor and non-functional power supply. Is that broken enough for you?  ;)

I still wouldn't know how to ship the thing, though.

Have you talked to local vendors?  That's how I got my double draogn II cabinet for free.  The monitor mount was busted and had no monitor then.  He said I could have it if I can remove it from his warehouse.  Just needed a new piece of plywood cut correctly.  The game works.
I just need to get a monitor for it sometime....

I think he's looking for something complete that he can repair in order to fix his knowledge. I'm just afraid an operator is going to charge him out the butt for a complete machine, even if it's not working.

Maybe ebay? What's your zip code, BB? We can help you look.

Thanks for thhe help guys.

My zip is 29926.

I don't have any vendors where I live becasue I live on an island. Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. There are vendors in the surrounding citry but they are jerks. Some time I might go to Sacahna Georgia (30 min. away) and take a look.

Might I have a pic of that machine?

Well my good friend, Ebay, told me that the only machines available in your area are fully functional.

Oh by the way, it would probably cost you a buttload for me to ship you an arcade shipping judging by your distance. I can always sell you one for cheap that meets your needs, but it's the shipping that'll kill you.

If you want to see what I've got, though, check the following thread:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,37312.0.html

I've got everything from beater to beautiful.

How much for the teenage mutant nija turtles? I love that game and it would be fun to fix up.

Oh that one is special. That's my MAME-cab-in-progress. It's not much of an arcade machine anymore. It's got a 27" SVGA monitor in it now.

To restore it back to a TMNT would probably cost more than the machine is actually worth. I'll make a fine MAME machine, though.

Not everyone in this forum as a cabinet....yet. :)

Anyway, I don't have much to sell...okay...I have nothing to sell you, but I'd suggest taking the advice from folks here. They usually know what they're talking about.

Since you're wanting a "broken" cabinet, I'd say your best bet is to pull out the yellow pages and look under "Amusement" and the like and call every number there. Offer to "haul away" any broken cabinets they might have.

If you have an advertiser magazine (or just your regular newpaper classified section), put an ad in there offering again to "Haul" away someone's broken arcade cabinet.

Not only will you more-then-likely get it for free, someone might pay you to do that "hauling". :)

Check on yahoogroups to see if there is a freecycle group local to your area. You can then post your message there as well.

Finally, use Ebay. Find sellers in your area. Now in this case, someone mentioned that he already looked them up for you and they were all working games. But that's okay. Because here you're not offering to haul away broken games, but just trying to establish a connection. You never know what those guys might have lying around that they aren't selling on Ebay. In these cases, I wouldn't expect the cabinet to be completely free, but you'll still probably get a pretty good deal.

The key for you (and it goes against me) is that if I read your message correctly, you have the ability to go and pick up a cabinet and are willing to do so. ;)

Good luck!
