I have a Scramble control panel if you want it.  Just pay the shipping.
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

oh yeah, here's the rough dimensions:

scramble-

H- 71
W- 24 1/2
D- 32

checkmate-

H- 64
W- 24 1/4
D- 27 1/4

to simplify my request...i made this little picture...

i think all that would really be needed for the general shape of the cab would be the side profile dimensions & the width of the back...

any help would be greatly appreciated...!

thanks...

Here are the angles for the stern cab... I wanted to measure the entire thing for ya but could not find my tape measure!   Anyway these measurements came from my old crappy "The End" stern cab which I myself am converting to a scramble.... I picked up new glass, control panel and marquee, they all fit perfectly so I believe all stern cabs are pretty much the same.  I've noticed that the scramble cab has the  lower rear cut on an angle while mine does not...

Hope this helps... If I can find my tape... I will finish it for you.

FP,

Here is one more... I was able to do a tracing of the side and measure it on paper so its pretty darn accurate... Each of the dimensions are straight cuts so that you can apply the radii as a second op  ;D...

I will get the rest when I find my tape... ;)

Here are the finished plans.... I did not outline the coin box shelf ... everything should be within ~1/16", and  the original cabinet (like many) was put together using rabbet edged "tounged" panels with the sidewalls grooved... and those details are not shown in the plans... So if you want to re-construct using that method  8) you would have to add the rabbet edge to all panels (effectively making them bigger)... If you plan on just butting the inside panels up against the sidewalls...glue and screw.. then these plans will work just fine  ;D.

Let me know if you all have any questions... or need clarification... I'll try my best.  Some numbers are a real pain to get without dismantling the thing....

Have fun!

i love the angle of how the monitor meets the speaker panel...

thanks again...!

hi jim...

could you measure the kick panel height again...?

it doesn't add up with your measurement of 36 7/8" & 38 1/4"(for the side panel measurement)...

thanks again...

Yup... I'll double check the numbers tonight... also need to add distance to glass bezel/control panel ledger...

BTW... what doesn't add up? surely I'm missing something... ::)
This is what I get:
kick panel(36 7/8") + offset from top edge(1 5/16")  + offset from bottom(3/8")  = 38 1/4"
I will re-trace to be sure.

the measurements for the kick panel make it too long for the cabinet...

it looks like it should be closer to 33 1/8"...

and the height of the kick panel portion of the side panel should be closer to 34 1/2"...

the back of the cabinet adds up with all of the rear panels...so that's why i'm looking at the kick panel part being off(too tall)...

Nice having the 3D model.

here's what i came up with(sketchup files attached in the zip file)...

the only thing that raises an eyebrow is the distance from the strapping & cp ledger to the edge of the side panel...if it was closer in my model...then the glass wouldn't line up with the notch in the speaker panel...

any thoughts...?

Wow! Someone else interested in the Stern Scramble cab? I'm not particular to the cab itself, but I just love that artwork.

Too bad those cab offers are three freaking years old.

Not sure... I'll check again.... but it may be the speaker board length is a little off too... also it looks like you have edge routed on the ledger board (for the glass) too short... it should almost all be cut off to leave a 3/16" rabbet along the front toward the player... (not that this would make a diff here)

Lookin' real nice!

Yes the artwork is awesome... its my understanding that Brian http://www.oleszakcreative.com/  has the basics for the stencil kit already started... he needs a cab scan to get the alignment and accuracy done... I've been bugging a guy on klov to scan his cab...  :) so Brian can finish the stencils... then I can restore my Stern to Scramble!

I most certainly did!  I can't believe how that came out... where the heck were you when I was doing my Defender anyway!  I myself have played with auto-cad and actually did a 3D design (I had a great tutor at the time) but man did it drive me crazy!  I'm a software not a mechanical engineer!

I'm playing with sketchup now... its definitely more my caliber...  I think all plans should be done this way... 2D "cuts" drawing and 3D "model/assembly" drawing.  If I had access to more cabs I would document the hell out of them, cause so many are old and stinky.

I like original machines... as long as they don't stink and look good.   However, I really like building a new ones (to the exact original specs), then get all of the trim pieces + electronics and basically have a carbon-copy nice shinny, not-so-smelly production quality arcade machine.  Now I may just do that with this one... I wasn't going to but... we shall see.

BTW:  I will most likely complete the plans... adding the coin box shelf and monitor shelf / bracket assembly... since these plans are coming out so nice... I hate to have them incomplete!

I did another check... the numbers on the speaker panel were of by 1/16... but thats not it... The strapping is actually 19 1/2" long not 19"... so that changes things but not sure if it changes things for the better?

I added the position of the coin box shelf

That looks like 3/4"  ... the only other adjustment I can think of is the speaker shelf needs to be lifted up and moved forward...  I honestly don't get it... I must be way off somewhere else... I've traced this thing 3 times... I'm starting to feel like an idiot! :banghead:

(edit)
Yes 3/4" stock is correct.  not that "about 18mm" stuff you get now-a-days

i don't know if your picture is supposed to match the angle or not...but that 115deg angle from the kick panel to the control panel is definitely not right...looks more like five degrees or so...

here's a sketchup file how your measurements add up...the circled parts in the attached picture are problem areas...

if you want...let's just focus on the side for now...getting that perfect...then we can move onto the next panel...

if you're up to it...

Sorry to keep ping ponging you with this... (should have been right the 1'st time... its a rediculously simple cabinet for crying out loud!) the question is more that if "you" are up to it?

We'll get it right...

i'm definitely up for it...

see that cross point about two thirds up on the cabinet...?

it's where the speaker panel and the monitor glass would meet...

it would probably be good to have that angle too...

i'm definitely up for it...

see that cross point about two thirds up on the cabinet...?

it's where the speaker panel and the monitor glass would meet...

it would probably be good to have that angle too...

My pics are power point .... definitely not accurate... ;)

OK... these HAVE to be correct :-\ ... I've re-traced the whole thing!  Seems to make more sense... most lengths are reasonable wholes or fractions with a couple of n/16" fractions... my guess is that once the 3d is done... those will round up or down to present better numbers.

I also added the angle of interest.

holy crap...now we're getting somewhere...

i changed your angles so they all make more sense(eg...115 instead of 116) and have come up with this...!

the only parts that don't 'seem' perfect are the two top-most angles...66.6 & 98.4...but all the measurements are good...!

i'll add the speaker panel and monitor strappings and see how that turns out...

 :applaud:

YES!  I felt better about this one... I used the other side of the cabinet which was not so "irregular" and did a rubbing of it, brought it inside and cleaned all edges and the numbers were so much better.

 8) excited for the rest of it now.

here's what i've got...

there is some overlapping of the top panel and the upper rear panel...but that was expected since the back was shorter than it should be...the trade-off being that all of the angles are spot on...

i'll probably just make one of the rear panels a tad shorter...which one would be best to do this to...?

Awesome... let me double check the rear top panel... I think thats the one that is off... also the rear top panel does not appear to be mitered either ( as you have it in the pic)... looks like the cabinet top panel just crudely sits on it... if I were to cut a new one I may consider mitering it to properly fit to the top panel.

Thanks for the update

actually...i don't have it mitered...it kind of just looks that way from the overlapping...

the mockups that i did before had the two crudely sitting together...i'll definitely change that to give it a more clean look once we get final measurements squared away...

keep up the good work...this is fun...

oh... thats actually what I meant... I should have said: "does not appear mitered as you have it drawn"... that is...  you have it illustrated correctly :D

well those are too long for my model... :P

i shortened up the rear door...
it measures 42 9/16" in height...

ignore the displayed dimension...i realised i didn't have the bottom rear panel flush with the bottom edge...it's fixed now...

how does the back door open...?

Here is one more data point... I've attached a pic showing the distance measured between the top and bottom rear panels... this number is correct... so let the rear door measurement present itself..

It was stupid late last night... I may have  ::) given you some bad numbers.

Also... I played with the 3d model... the side panel distance along the back is about 1/4" short... I'm sure thats a function of the angles along the front / marquee area... but that may contribute to the problem with the back side.

Discrepancies with Coin door/floor panels
« Reply #49 on: April 16, 2020, 02:53:31 am »
I planned on using these dimensions to build my own Stern Cabinet, but while doing some simple adding and comparison to original cabs I found some issues with the proposed plans. I wanted to get this thread updated in the hopes no one uses those measurements to make a cab of the wrong size.

1. The bottom of the coin door panel measurement to the ground
-The dimensions show a 15/16 gap from the bottom of the coin door panel to the bottom of the side of the cabinet. Based on every stern cabinet photo I've seen that is not near accurate. It looks more like 1/1/2".

2. If I was to trust the coin door panel section their measurements do not add up anyway. Adding up the coin door panel front side at 36/1/2" + the reveal of the top 1/5/16" + the proposed bottom reveal 5/16" gives a total of 38/1/8" which is 1/8" larger than the entire 38" section it's supposed to take up of the cabinet side.

3. They have completely left out the section at the rear bottom of the cabinet side. Sure you could leave it as 90 corner, but it's supposed to have what looks like a triangle cut out of it.

4. Well this is quite obvious as well, but the floor panel too is off as it would be too low.

If anyone can help with correcting these that would be fantastic,

Thank you

Curtis
