Would a Berzerk theme fit??
« on: May 12, 2005, 08:51:37 am »
I have two cabs.  One is going to be for vertical games only and themed to Q*bert (but will play my favorite vertical games)

The other is here:
http://metroidclassic.com/cab/index.php

It is a vanilla cab that I started building from the book.  Well, I don't want another plain black cab.  This cab will play only horizontal games.  I'm a big fan of Berzerk.

I know the actual cabs are different, but they seem close.  I am not going for 10000% authenticity.  Hell, most non-hardcore players probably don't remember what the cab looked lie anyway.

This cab will be two players, two 8-ways, trackball, and spinner.  Pretty standard.

What do you think?  I know it's MY cab, but opinions are always welcomed.

Thanks!

I think it would rock personally.  Especially since you loved the game in its original fashion.

Now the other part of your site has me intrigued.  Any progress on that editor for Classic Metr.... err.... 2DSSPGC?  I would love to build a game and then build a cab to go with it.  :)

hahaha...yeah, there is some progress actually.

my engine kicks butt (imho).  I am just having a hard time getting an editor.

I have moved into a new house and among finishing my cab, I am building my office so I can program.  In the old house, I had no room to program due to new baby.

Such a deal I have for you.  I bought an old Berzerk cabinet a while back (which was pretty thoroughly gutted - the system tray (which was a great idea) was still there but everything else, including the system door and back panel were gone.

Prior to sanding and repainting I traced and photographed the old art work in case I wanted to make it back into a Berzerk.  I'd be willing to lend you my tracings if you'd like.  I don't think you could cut these to make stencils, but they'd be a good first step.

I've also got a Berzerk Marquee that I'm not going to be using (decided to go in a different direction) that I could part with.

Cool!

How much for the marquee?  Is it in good shape?
Lend?  You mean, so I can copy and send back?  Sure, that would be awesome too.

email me at:  cbmeeks@gmail.com  for any details.

Thanks!!!!

The marquee PROBABLY won't fit your cabinet, you would have to have one printed in a custom size. The original one will be too narrow for that cabinet.

Zorg, Is this good enough for a trace?  I took this pic at a local arcade, and can take more if needed.
It doesn't matter if you win or lose....it's how you play the videogame.

this will be enough for placement task, but not for tracing. ;(
I hope Avery could provide a scan.

If someone traces that, I hope you will fix the perspective first!

I will be scanning it sooner or later, but work is beating me up enough that I'm not really competent to try and play systems analyst with my PC.

Well, not and not end up with something that has been "slightly shotgunned"!

I do have some more cabinet info and have edited it into my earlier post.

thanks for all the help guys.

You are probably right about the marquee.  my cab probably wouldn't match the marquee size.

right now, I am just going to work on the cp to get something up and running.  :-)

now, to find some cool looking blue joysticks.
