I didn't bother to follow the link, but I can tell you exactly what it is.

It IS an el-cheapo all in one PC motherboard sitting on top of a JAMMA interface board running Mame and arcadeOS. They have been around for YEARS.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

The link provided in the beginning of the thread is for a generic JAMMA search. I believe this is the one Alundra was referring to here

Paiges assumption is dead on.

I see some ROMS that are not part of the std MAME distro. There's MSLUG5 in the list. This set also appears to be all horizontal games.

Yeah those things are so illegal. I'm surprised Foley hasn't shut them down yet.

The vast majority of the games on them aren't even any good. It's like they just mashed together games until they hit 400 so they would have a big number to brag about.

Also heard the PC motherboard used is pretty lightweight and the frame rates are really bad.

So its just a regular PC motherboard with what, a ram drive?

I wonder if you can replace the motherboard, or buy the Jamma interface alone?   Anyone have more details on the jamma connector?

if it is true that the PC board is put on top of the jamma board,it will be alot cheaper and neater if  we can figure out how to put  our own pc board on these jamma board instead put a whole computer and jpac into our cabs...

It's the same thing in a different shape.

Looks to me like the video is contained on the jamma board, as well as an audio amp.  So its much more than a simple jpac.  I wish Andy would do something like this.

Well it has the advantages of using the full JAMMA edge connector. The J-PAC doesn't depend on an arcade power supply, but this thing does. I'm sure it gets power for the audio amp from the edge connector.

Building some sort of J-PAC Plus that includes an audio amp would probably be pretty easy for Andy.

I don't know what you're refering to when you mention video, though. The J-PAC supplies the video signal coming out of the PC.

Actually, I believe this 400-in-1 board requires a PC power supply (the auction mentions that it comes with this).  Could be because jamma spec doesn't source 3.3v which I think motherboards require.

I could be wrong, but I doubt there is onboard 15khz video on that cheap motherboard, which is why I think the video card/chips may be housed on the jamma board (and just connectied via a pci type ribbon cable to the motherboard).

[edit] maybe the video is from the motherboard afterall, based on what I read here on usenet...

I've had the chance to check out a few of these in the past. They are infact
a Baby ATX board with a JAMMA interface board usually GLUED in place. The
video, controls and sound are all routed from the MoBo to this interface
board via small pigtails. You also have to toss in an ATX power supply to
provide power. Oh, the hard drive is a 2.5" laptop drive. The emulation is MAME and I think the front-end is similar to the one on
arcade@home's site.

[/edit]

Still, I wonder if you can upgrade the motherboard as long as the video chipset is similar...

There is nothing for Foley to shut down, its impossible for him to do much anything about East Asian bootlegs, and technically I think those were around well before Ultracade was.

Those are the exact boards that come to mind everytime I hear someone say "It is only a matter of time before someone starts making Mame stuff for location use, and then we will all be in trouble."

Guess what, those things have been around 5 years, possibly earlier. I have never had one in my hands, but I was bumping into them even when I got started in this hobby.

They're no thread to Foley or the hobby because the vast majority of game son them suck.  :)

Their selling point is "400-in-1". I've seen them go for less than a 39-in-1, though. At least the 39-in-1 has good games (even if they're a mish-mash).
