What game is it? If you're in test mode you probably just need to find and flip the test switch. If you don't have one then you will probably have to wire one up.

yeh the board is in test mode.  don't change the dip switch settings unless you're sure what each one does - write down the current switch settings for reference.  once you know what game it is you should be able to get the switch settings off the net and get it running. post the details on here someone will know what game it is

You would wire up a button with one end going into the "test" pin and another going into one of the "ground" pins (there are several and any should work fine).

If that doesn't work, you'll likely have to go egg's route and see if there isn't some test mode built into the board. I don't know enough about that particular game to tell you. You'll find that in the manual, though. If you don't have one, you can probably find one online in PDF format.

yeah dont wire anything to the board until you know it's deffinitely not got anything there already that will do.

Note, you're better off wiring a SLIDING SWITCH, not a button. Or at least a button that can stay on. Otherwise you will have to hold the test button as the machine powers up..

right after more research all the dipswitches are off !!

so i was wondering if a jamma board will go straight into test mode if something is not right ie coin a or test

the information on the screen says that number 2 and 3 on both dips are on but there not so that raises my suspicions that i need to coin A sorting out or the test switch.

i will try and connect a switch to the test and ground like the guy said

Maybe the test mode is not wired to a button. Maybe it's a dipswitch or something on the board as was mentioned before. Check the manual.

Have you checked the manual yet? You're poking around in the dark until you look at it. Maybe test mode is the result of an off dip switch. You'll never know until you check the manual.

Switch 3 on Bank A should be for TEST/PLAY mode (according to the pinout on coinop.org shown above).

If you can post a close-up of the board itself, perhaps we can help more.

Cheers.

Switch 3 on Bank A? What's that? Oh, I bet I know where to find it! I'll give you one guess.  ;)

Sorry .... wasn't replying directly to you, but rather pointing out to the OP that the answer *is* in the documentation that has already been posted and is easy to find. But then, you knew all of that already, hence your advice to the OP.

Cheers.

But this site is based on free advice. Asking a question and then ignoring the advice just undermines the entire system.

Well, the dips do all appear to be off to me, which should bypass test mode entirely as the Jamma test mode pin isn't used in Football Champ (according to the pinout below).

http://www.hqscansorg.org/manuals/index.php?name=football%20champ

Does flipping Bank A, DIP 2 cause the screen to flip (power off before flipping the switch, of course) ?

Do you have all of your power pins wired (e.g. 3-6 and C-F) ... I'm having trouble counting the wires ?

Cheers.

i think all the power wires are connected as the thing wouldnt come on would it (lol)

let me see 3-6 and c-f erm?????

so the dips dont work?

or is it a fault so its going straight into testmode regardless
of any dip changes becuase tilt doesnt work
here is a closer pic of the jamma wires:

and here is the testscreen????COINA:OFF:

how do i get this game on???

the dips dont change anything

UMMM according to that most recent photo, it would appear all switches are being detected as ON! Everything should be OFF, unless you're pressing a button... Sounds to me like there's a short somewhere aong the inputs. Why else would it say "tilt ON" if you don't even have a tilt switch?

Check your jamma harness (the connector) and make sure all those solderd contacts are not touching each other.

You might even have to resort to disconnecting all buttons and joysticks to try and narrow down the short. (If anyone can confirm that I'm not way off here, please chime in before this guy wastes more time).

And another thing, you still haven't said WHICH MANCHESTER!!!

... unless ON just means "active" and that the buttons are ready for use. Does the manual say anything about the test mode operation?

I was thinking that, but how would the board know that a NO switch had been hooked up at all ??

I think RayB is on to it.

First thing is *please* stop creating new threads about this same problem.

Next is to check the soldering as RayB suggested.

Finally, what are all of the control wires hooked up to ? Did you save the control panel ? As RayB suggested, you may want to disconnect controls one at a time to isolate any short.

Cheers.

ive saved the control yes.

all the control wires seem to be ok

theres like a black wire that goes to all of the controls....which pin does that go on the jamma (ground?)

if so ive tried it and it doesnt work

you say removing each colored wire from each button and keep turning it on and off?

you know right at the end of all the controls would that have to be connected anywhere?

please help!

Sounds like the ground wire daisy-chained from switch-to-switch (which is normal).

Actually, RayB's plan of disconnecting ALL controls off the bat is probably better than my one-by-one suggestion.

Quote
you know right at the end of all the controls would that have to be connected anywhere?

You've lost me here ... are you saying you have a wire that is not connected to your harness ?

Cheers.

Your guess as good as mine at this point ... it could be a problem with the controls, the wiring harness or the board ...
