Star Wars yoke v STUN Runner yoke
« on: December 15, 2002, 02:26:17 am »
I've seen photos of both, and noted the difference in the shape of the handles. Are they also different internally? As in, do they rotate and tilt a different amount, use different pots etc?

I think they are the same as far as x/y movement (leftright/updown)
but one thing I did notice or couldn't tell clearly is whether stunn runner had  the "photon torpedo" buttons (thumb "triggers")

But I don't have any reall evidence to back up whether the internal pot specs or gear ratios are exactly the same or not, it's just assumed by most people (i.e. why would atari make it more expensive to produce the same controller for different games and make it look the same...)

*shrug* YMMV

PS also - games with funky controllers like this would be more popular with operators if they had conversion games available which also leads me to believe they kept the same exact joystick desgin and just didn;t put x-wing cockpit decals on it =P

The S.T.U.N Runner yoke does *not* have any thumb buttons. Only trigger/triggers. Its been a decade since I've played this but I'm 99% sure that I'm right. I don't even think it had two triggers (only one on the right grip) Don't quote me on this because the machine I played may have had its left trigger broken and was missing.

Sorry about the confusion Rampy, that was me. When you asked me in email if I was that Wolfman from a message board (forgot the name you used), I didn't think you were reffering to this board, and since I posted only a couple of times, I was pretty sure you couldn't have known me! Sorry about that.

Thanks guys. Do you know of any other mechanical differences aside from the lack of thumb buttons? (already noticed that one). For my gunnery purposes, I need 6 buttons, 3 per handle. That means I will have to drill 2 holes on each handle and fit in 2 pushbuttons. Is there enough space in the handles for this? (I'll be receiving mine soon so I'll know for sure, but still wondering). Thanks!

If there's not enough space for the buttons, I'll buy it off you (I regret changing course from bidding on the stunn runner yoke to the star wars yoke/cp which then went up to like 138 bucks or more... )

PS - I thought that was you... I was searching old threads here to confirm that STUN Runner had a simliiar yoke (both x and y axis and not just X axis like roadblasters) and stumbled across your "tank gunnery"/bradlely/battlezone thread... and thought it was more than coincidental that the ebay bidder was wolfman846736  as well as the poster =P

OK then, I'll let you know how it goes, and if things don't work out, you can have it.

Stunrunner doesn't center on the y axis.  It's at the lowest point at rest.

When its at rest, is it tilted all the way forward or all the way back?

IIrc it's pretty much centered and only goes down, since the gun only goes up.  I'll check that when I get home.
