Oscar spinners & Light guns
« on: June 21, 2005, 02:10:49 pm »
I almost hate to post this here, but don't know where else to turn.

My wife and I were wanting to order a spinner and light gun (at least one).  Oscar's on hiatus (sp?) and we missed the Act Labs pre-order due to finances being what they were.

If anyone has one up for sale still (perhaps on another page here), I'd like to talk to you about it.  Wanting to try and finish the controls on the cabinet by summer as I'll be VERY busy this fall....this is my one shot probably before next summer (I'm a school teacher and have picked up some "added responsibilites" for 2005 -2006, so I know my time will be limited).

Please understand that my wife and I must discuss this before we agree to buy from anyone; your putting an item out here will not assure you of a response, but we will try to respond here at least in post to all.

I have a feeling I didn't say any of this well, but bear with me...my first time considering buying from individuals online verses a company like Ultimarc or Happ.  :)

I appreciate the post Alan - and I have heard numerous good things about several of the sellers here...

I think the apology was as much for my long post as anything else...most everyone else just says "I'm looking  for....(name it)."  I had to waffle and dance around the issue a few times. :)

Thanks again though! Now, hopefully, in the days to come it will be on to business!

For the lightgun.... I don't know if the actlabs is the best solution for the price for long.  There is a guncon2 driver being developed which with a little work will make a $25 gun work on the PC.   This seems like it will be the best solution very soon (if not now).  There are also wireless versions that work with the drivers.  There are also a few people working to get the arcade guns working with a PC.  This will be a good (but slightly more expensive) solution soon.

But I have an actlabs gun.  I kinda like it.. but I was about to sell it when the prices got to 200 (then the preorders started and ebay prices dropped).  They aren't worth that much at all.  There are only a few games that they work well with... And even then, the problem of an off shot 1 - 20 (just shooting to the far left every so often) kills a ton of games like police trainer.

As for the spinners.  If you really can't wait for Oscar to get back.  The tornado spinner is a good.  I don't think they are as strong as Oscars (aluminum I believe) but thats only really a problem with hotswap control panels (where the bottom of your control panel gets hit / moved on a regular bases).  Anyway, many people like the long spin times.  I personally went with Oscar, and would probably wait myself... but thats really the hotswap control panel... and I know the quality he sells...

BTW, to answer your questions..

Actlabs are being sold mainly on ebay because people are getting 2 - 3 times their original purchase price for them there.

And Oscar spinners go on the BST board about as fast as ipac keyboard encoders... IE, if you aren't the first person who reads the thread... its probably gone... even when they are priced within 5-10 bucks of new.

Thanks Wolf... :D

Decided to go with the Tornado Spinner - looked good and remembered it got a pretty good write up in Saint's book as well.

Going to wait on the light guns and see what happens with the guncon thing.l...thanks again for the pointers guys!
