20 3/4"

It's a cabaret cabinet (one player).

What size of monitor do you plan on putting in there? That makes a lot of difference. My 27" wouldn't fit in anything less than about a 29" inch inner width.

Well 20 3/4" is just about standard for cabinets fitting 19" monitors. Depending on how bulky your TV is, it ought to fit in that space constraint.

If you're using a smaller monitor like that, though, I'd recommend not making the cab too wide. It'll only make your monitor look smaller. There are plenty of sets of plans online, though, and you can use existing machines as a basis for comparison. One of them is bound to suit your needs.

the reason i was planning (at first) making my cabint 30 in wide is cause my control panel is 30in wide, if my cabinet is smaller how do i mount it? how will i keep it from moving? i want to keep it removable so in the future i can make a 4 person cp.

Look up a picture of a TMNT or an NBA Jam. Both use a wide control panel that sits on a sort of a shelf yet it's still built-in. It's pretty much how all newer 4player games are built.

Toshiba 27" TVs measure 26" in width.  does yours have side speakers?

Mine is 30" outside and 28 1/2" inside this is fine for my 27" with bottom speakers. Also a large enough screen for a 4 player cp once I get around to it. Now I did see you plan on going 21". Is this temp or perm. In other words are you using what you already have or are you buying this new 21"? If you go with a 4 player CP you may find a 21" to be a bit small. A 21" is fine for a 2 player cab. I bring this up about the 4 player because I have 3 kids and I know it will see alot of play time with there friends and my family. My screen size changed 3 times as construction took place. :) So basically in all this what I am trying to say is your CP will tell you your screen size in the end! I hope this helps good luck!

I'm guessing you didn't decase it?
My 29" tube only measures 24-3/8 at the widest part of the mounting plates.

It's decased. It's just big. The 27" refers to the viewable area, not the size of the tube.

You must have some HUGE mounting rails for that thing.

Mine BARELY stick out at all.
The tube is only 23-3/4".
With a couple stop dado routs for the mounting rails, I could JAM it into a 24" wide cab.
Give me 25", and I'd be set.

I was wrong. I have a 29" OUTER width. That makes it a 27.5" inner width. Then subtract another 3" for the frame. That makes is 24.5".

I'm about 75% complete with the cabinet , and mine is 30" wide, but that's because I have a rotating control panel and want to have enough room for two large players to play comfortably.

i am making a cabinet soonand i just wanted to know how wide otherpeoples were at first i was planning on making mine 30 inches wide but than relized thats way to wide. so please tell me how wide your are.

600mm [23.62" for you imperial lot] internally (636 externally [25"], including the 2*18mm MDF walls).   Big enough for a 21" monitor, or 52cm TV with slim side speakers.  You could probably *JUST* squeeze a 27" arcade monitor in there too.

27" monitor on the diagonal = (27/5)*4 = 21.6" wide, or roughly 550mm, plus a bit extra for good luck.

Making the cabinet too big for the monitor is ugly in my opinion.  It makes the monitor look smaller than it really is.  Even small monitors look fine in cabinets that are scaled down evenly in all dimensions.

Should be fine.  But buy the TV *FIRST* and measure it before buying/cutting wood. :)

That depends if the TV you use has speakers onto the sides or the bottom. If they're on the bottom you ought to be just fine. If they're on the sides, though, I'm not making any promises.

Mine doesn't fit through a normal door.  Thankfully I have a larger sliding door out the back and it wasn't going into any of the small rooms.  If it had to go into a spare room then I think my cab would be much smaller.

Josh this is a picture of the cab right now.  I have progressed a little since this was taken but vacation and meetings have slowed the progress quite a bit.  The width is just a little over 66 inches.  The two arms standing up are for the steering wheels so they can be lowered and raised out of the way.  (or that is the plan anyway)  I had to be very careful on design because of the weight and mobility.  When finished it will break down into 3 parts and will all fit through a regular door.  I am just going to make sure it isn't me moving it   ;)  Its no joke this is one big mama jama!  I haven't seen anyone build a 2 person yet so I am taking on the challenge.  If anyone has built one or knows of one please post.

Mine is 700mm + the width of the cabinet walls. That makes 736mm wide or 29 inches and is to suit a 27" screen.

27.5" exterior width, not including the CP of course....I am using a 27" TV as the monitor.  Just don't attach your CP (if it is wider) until the cabinet is in it's final resting place.

Gameover, the idea of the post are to attach the steering wheels to the far end.  I have actually put the lowering mechanism on the arms.  It is highly sophisticated (screen door hinges).  In between those 2 boxes, on which my Supra seats will be fastened, will be a console.  The arms will lower into the console slot providing more lateral support.  This is actually the step I am currently on.  Problem is I want to paint, laminate, or somehow cover the ugly 4x4 post. I am afraid after a few uses up and down the arms will begin to chip.  Also I am not sure if the arms drop into a slot in the middle console if there will be enough lateral support if someone were to crank on the steering wheel.  Now the idea makes sense to me but it all in that big space in my head.  If anyone knows what the hell I am talking about shoot me some advice.  I will try to take some updated pictures to make more sense.
