*Newbie* Can I use a 360
« on: December 12, 2002, 09:41:59 am »
Hello everyone!

I plan on hacking into a playstation 2 controller to build myself an arcade joystick. From there, I plan on buying a converter for the Xbox so that I may be able to use the joystick on the X-box. Thanks to this site, I'll be able to build this with ease..well, sorta. ;)

Now for my question: I want to use a perfect 360

Something else I forgot to mention...

I want to use the joystick ONLY for capcom vs. SNK 2 and marvel vs. capcom 2, both for the X-box. I just want to use X-BOX LIVE for both them. That is all. I do not want to use the joystick for any other purposes.

hey thanks man! I appreciate the help, but the pictures, it seems like your using a psx dualshock controller and not a ps2 dualshock controller. Could you clarify this for me.

Are you a member of SRK?? If so, I think you know where I am coming from...I really want to build the joystick before cvs2 and mvc2 come out for the X-box.

Yeah I'm a member of SRK.  Same alias "M3talslug".

it is a PSX dualshock but it's pretty much identical to the PS2 dualshock.  The PSX dualshocks I had on hand were "old" and they were feeling stiff... so I figured I'd use them instead of my new PS2 dualshocks.

Make sure you use SONY brand gamepads even though they are harder to use <-- some of them have a coating on the soldering points which have to be scratched off.  Fortunately, the PSX dualshocks I used did not have that coating.  Some adapters WON'T work with third party controls.

Although I designed the joystick to work with many types of games, it was MOST important for it to play the FIGHTING games well and closely match the arcade cabinets in the arcades in my area.  <-- hence I didn't go with ergonomic button layouts,  etc.

The cabinets in my area use either 360joysticks or Ultimates(Bleeaarrggghhh).  Chinatown fair is the only arcade to my knowledge to use the Supers.  I tend to like playing on machines with 360s or Supers.
