Virtual Jukebox 2.0 Beta
« on: December 10, 2002, 09:56:13 pm »
Anyone else find that the new beta doesnt work, I cant get it to show a single album cover and get a runtime error when I click on view by artist.  I cant imagine I am the only one, and I also bet its fixed by tomorrow, you have to admit, Scott does his very best to please everyone.  Running Windows XP Pro - Service Pack 1

did you erase your jukebox ini before running it?

Yes I did in fact erase the .ini before I tried to do anything.  I got the exact same results on 2 different machines.  I will, just for fun, try it on a third machine in about an hour.  I am sure its only a temp problem, like I said, Scott will fix it.

The beta version installed fine on mt Xp machine.

Also let me say that some of these new features are very exciting for touch screen users. But I did find a few bugs.

1. When I display 8 albums at a time it imports  some of the covers into the number area above the album cover.

2. If the tracks are in a button and I select a album with 10 songs it's fine but if I go to another album with 5 songs it displays the 5 new songs but it will display songs 6-10 of the last album I looked at.

3. when tracks are in a button I can't adjust the font size.

That's all for now, but let me just say that Scott you have outdone yourself. My real name is garry and I ask you about some of the touch screen features that you have implemented into your software.  Not many people can accept constructive Criticism. But because you take it willingly your jukebox is the best bar none. Thank you!

First off...I want to thank everyone for the support...I am trying to satisfy all the users on all of the different Windows platforms...As far as the albums not being displayed and the runtime errors....you WILL receive these symptoms if you downloaded the VERSION 2 BETA executable and copied it into the VERSION 1 installation directory without running the latest setup program.  Version 2 beta is looking for graphics files in a SKIN folder (which gets installed with the Version 2 beta setup program).   Please download the latest setup program from http://www.mameroom.com to eliminate these symptoms.

I have also updated the program to correct the problem Garry explained..with the tracks not being overwritten in interactive mode.  Garry, the font size in the buttons is controled by the font size specified for the track listing.  It appears 1.5 times larger than the font size specified.  If needed, I can work into the program a method for changing just this font size.

I also added a new feature.  Users with many albums complained about loading speed being to slow, only having 100 albums myself, I never fully understood what was the complaint...so I copied all my albums 3 times and found the problem.  The program loads all covers, track lists, and album information up front...this takes time.  I added a feature to allow the user to select whether all the albums will be loaded up front or only when needed.  For example, only the first four (or eight) albums will be loaded at startup.  As the user presses the left or right buttons, the next two or previous two albums in the library list will be loaded before the Album tray slides left or right.

There were a few other updates, but I wanted to get these out there ASAP.

Get the latest version of the BETA Executable:
http://www.cybertechdesign.net/software/Jukebox/vj_update.htm

Thanks again for all the support.

I want to thank Scott for one of the best (for my uses) jukebox programs I have ever seen.

Now on to what I have been doing wrong.  I am running Windows 98 SE which I has been a problem.

I  just added the exe and deleted the ini for my original install.  This gave me a program that ran but did not show any albums after I set the library again. I then saw Scott's newest post and tried again.

When I ran the new setup (on a clean directory) as recommended I found that even my older vjb 1.0.87 would not run because it was looking for and not finding msdxm.ocx.  I moved the downloaded from prior info msdxm.ocx to my windows system directory and things ran again.  I still did not have any albums showing and changing the order of the albums gave me a runtime error.

I went added and deleted libraries and nothing worked.
I then went to the JUKEBOX menu and noted that the last library that I had added was listed there.   I clicked on that entry and everything worked great.

I dont ever remember having to specifically add the library in the JUKEBOX menu as the program would reload the library when I left the options menu.   I guess most of the problem was due to dumb operator error in this case but I thought I would pass it on just in case someone else is in the same boat.

Added another features requested by a user...Random mode:  Allows the user to specify a time and number of songs to play after a period of inactivity.  I also realized that many registered users and shareware users have gotten ahold of the beta version executable (which is perfectly OK...the more people trying it out, the better), but please realize that if you are not set up as one of the original beta testers...you may be missing some necessary files and receive many of the errors mentioned in this board.  If you receive errors and are not sure if it is because of this reason...please email me directly at programmer@cybertechdesign.net.  I will either get you set up to use the newer version or correct the problem immediately.

I've posted some pics of some user's projects and Virtual Jukebox setups on the mameroom website under Other News.

Check it out at :  http://www.mameroom.com

If I used your pictures/project and you don't wish them to be listed, please let me know and I'll remove them.

Thanks

New feature added (needs testing too).  PLAYLISTS

To create a new playlist, go to the File pull down menu and select Create Playlist.  You will be prompted for a playlist name.  The playlist will be created as an album in the current library.

Here's the messy part which I'm working on making better (suggestions would be taken into consideration).  To add tracks to the playlist...you must first find out the playlist album number.

Add songs to the selection list.  When you are ready to add the selected song or songs to the playlist....enter the 3-digit playlist album number and "99" for the track (example: "01499").  All of the selected songs will be added to the playlist.

You can now select individual songs from the playlist or play the entire list by using the playlist album number and "00" for the track.

This feature needs to be developed more for easier use...so play around with it and let me know your thoughts.

Thanks.

Great work cyber!

A few probs I have found:

Using the new version on brand new pc ( no previous install) .
I have about 200 albums loaded into the library  but it will go as far as say 23 then back to the start . Also If I try to get to the preferences menu
I get a runtime error afer clicking ok the menu appears but no options can be saved.

Also if I select a video ( full screen selected in ini file) it only plays the audio , but if I resize the window from full screen the video plays ok ( but not in the centre of the screen).

Thanks Cyber your gona end up with one cool prog!

running win2k sp3 on 1.2ghz athlon with 128 mb ram if that helps.

I originally downloaded the Demo but recently registered it.  It is version 2.0.  There have only been a few bugs that I have noticed.  The random mode checkbox will not click, and when trying to change the background color of the Album Number Text it will stay white.  Thats all so far.  Its an awsome program.  ;D

New version sorted out most of the problems.
Except I still cannot get to the pref menu without a runtime error. Doesnt matter as I can edit the ini.

Most covers are now displayed but having a few probs with some covers. I will try resizing them now and see if it makes a difference.

I am using a 15"lcd and an add on touch screen and its working very well .The selection numbers could be a little bigger for the touch screen as sometimes you hit a key beside the required number .

Have a nice weekend Cyber.
