Imperial PS2 trackball settings in mame
« on: December 09, 2002, 04:51:17 pm »
Alright guys,

I've finally got the trackball control panel up and running.  I ended up just bolting it to the lexan (no mounting plate) and it works great.  Anyway, now that I got it all built, does anyone know what settings some mame games need (ie sensitivity and speed).  Hopefully someone has a list that they can just cut and paste  (I hope  :-\)

thanks!

I would think this would more or less be a matter of personal preference...  Wouldn't it just be easier to play the games in question and tweak the settings to your liking, much like I did when I got the very same trackball?

I agree with Warborg that you'll want to test out the games and set them to your preferences, as some people like faster TBs and others like slower.

However, as a starting point, I suggest you increase the sensitivity by ~2 to 2.5 times mame's defaults.
If you replace the optical encoder wheels with oscar's model 3 wheels, though, you'll be able to use numbers much closer to the mame default values (but you'll have to reverse the inputs IIRC, too).

I was kinda hoping some people knew the approximate settings (esp for 3" TB games) that make it as close to the original as possible.  If that's not the case, no big deal ;D

I cant get the imperial trackball ps2 version working for dos mame or advmame.  The mouse works fine for dosedit and advmenu, but not within the games themseleves.  I checked with another mouse and it works great inside the games.  Is there a special driver or something I am missing?  Thanks.

superdude,

do you have the ps2 version trackball, or are you just using one straight from an arcade cab?

I have the ps2 version one, and it plugs right into my mouse port.  No drivers or anything (although the 3rd mouse button won't work without a 3 button mouse driver-- I just don't use the 3rd mouse button).

Keep in mind that I've only been using mame32.  My cab isn't entirely complete, so I've just loaded a few games on the system to test out the wiring of my control panels.  When I get it all built/set up, I'll try out various mames and frontends.

I have a ps2 imperial trackball, and it works fine in advmame.  Did you change the mouse imput to auto in the advmame.cfg file?

I have the ps2 version from ebay.  It works in dos edit and advmenu but not in dmame or advmame for dos.  The trackball does work in windows however. I checked my advmame.rc and mame.cfg for mouse auto, it was setup correctly.  I tested my pc with a regular mouse and it works great but the trackball doesnt.  Perplexing to say the least.
