WTT PC133 for PC100
« on: June 02, 2005, 09:49:11 pm »
I have (2) sticks of 256 168p PC133 SDRAM I would like to trade for PC100.

Anyone have 1 or more sticks they would like to trade?

Is there a specific rig that won't use 133 AS 100?

All the computers I've ever needed 100 for (mostly Macs, granted) would accept 133, but used it at the slower speed.

You might want to check the tech specs on the rig you want to put it in.

Ya, I know whatcha mean.

That's a function of whether the 133 will run at 100. At one point in time, when PC133 came on the scene that is how it was manufactured.....then they quit making 133 backward compatible.

I have an older intel board that needs PC100 and the PC133 I have will not work in it.

I had a spare 128 PC100 stick that works just fine so thats the issue and thus my reason for seeking out someone wishing to swap or someone with PC100 thats wants to make some other deal.

Could the problem be your Motherboard doesn't support 256mg in one slot.  I ask because you said you have tried PC100 128 meg and it worked fine.  Try a PC133 128mg chip if you have one and see if that works.

I was just making sure you had at least tried it before agreeing to trade down with someone, and paying shipping, and all.

That is very odd, I am pretty sure I have put PC133 onto PC66 boards with no issues.

Unfortunately, SteveJ34 is correct.  I don't know the full history on it, but not all PC133 works in all PC100 or PC66 boards.

It has worked in the past, but lately that compatibility seems to have lessened drastically.  And from my testing it isn't the MB, it's the RAM.

I never knew there was an issue with this?  I've always just plugged in 133 and went with it.  It always ran albeit underclocked.  Can you post the brand and such?

I've had it for awhile, it may be PNY but don't quote me.

This is not as uncommon as many of the responses to my original thread appeared to make it seem.

There was a turning point in memory production where *some* PC133 was not backward compatible. The (2) sticks I have fit this criteria.

No biggy.
