ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!
« on: December 07, 2002, 06:58:52 pm »
Just COMPLETELY resoldered my sidewinder hack for my bartop as I have been getting ESC's out of the blue kicking me out of the game.  Got a desolder braid and took 4 hours to meticulously redo the entire thing.

Same problem again, so I am ready to KILL myself.

Does anyone have a hacked SW they want to sell?  Does anyone have any they will hack and then sell to me?  I need a non-USB one for DOS ...

Let me know, I will pay whatever is reasonable.

Brent

Just order and hack a poweramp mite from www.act-lab.com; I'm using one to power my bartop.  It's small and on-the-fly programmable. The solder points are a little small though.

If the solder point are smaller, I may be in bigger trouble ...  I suck at soldering, and burnt half the contacts to crap on the Sidewinder.  No wonder I am getting buttons pushed all the time that I don't hit ...

Is that a gameport pad?  Pretty cheap,  but with shipping to Canada it ends up a little pricy.   Thanks for the response.

He was, but wanted 16 US shipping in a box the size of a beachball.  When I questioned it, he told me to piss off ...  Oh well!  Lol.

Thanks, I appreciate it.  I just bought another one off Ebay for 10 bucks CAD, I am going to give it another try or see if any of my friends are handier than me at soldering ...

Thanks again, very nice of you to look around.

I guess that'll teach me to be a nice guy.  Shipping was quoted at $8 UPS or $13 USPS.  I guess you can't read or solder. Good luck on the other Sidewinder.  Hope you blow up your computer.

Here is the email ....
------
I just checked the USPS site, and it looks like shipping would be $16 for Global Express Mail (3-5 days) or $13 for Airmail Parcel Post (4-10
days)  I think $50 worth of insurance was $1.30. The package is about 12x7x7, and is probably less than a pound.  Let me know what you want to do, or if you can find a cheaper way.  I'll drop it off at the post office tomorrow.

Greg
------

There it is for all to see.  I wasn't trying to flame you, just didn't understand why you got so defensive when I asked why the package was the size of an elephant.  Sorry, I don't want to get in some verbal war, let's leave it at that.

First off, let me say I am sorry for anyone unfortunate enough to read this thread.  Lets see.  You were ok with $30 but not with $33 or $38, right?  So instead, you invest 4 hours of your time, buy a new Sidewinder for lets say $15, and put off your project for a few weeks. Not real smart.

You probably should have gone with an ipac anyway.  You're talking about $20 difference, and you're getting something much better.  Maybe you could have saved up your allowance for a month, or not gotten that new Brittany Spears cd.

Anyway, I was just trying to help out a guy who loves this hobby like I do.  The box was way too big, I was charging too much, I did a terrible job soldering, and I probably would have ripped you off, anyway.

You are absolutely correct.  I was OK with 30 bucks, not 33 or 38.  I live in Canada, so the difference ends up being pretty substantial.  My new Sidewinder cost me 10 bucks CAD, but it is screwed up just like the old one anyways ...  LOL, that should make you happy, at least it didn't blow up my computer  :o

Yes, an IPAC is the answer, and sorry we got off on this tangent, I appreciate you trying to help me out.

PS - Britney has a new CD out?
