saw an Ultracade machine at a restaraunt in Atlanta
« on: June 01, 2005, 10:13:17 am »
i went to atlanta for the weekend to see my older brother and his family, and we went to a restaraunt called Dave and Busters.  its like a big place where they have food obviously, but they also have pool tables, a bar, dance floor, sports room, and a real big arcade.  we have something similar in nature here in nashville, tn...its called Jillians.  dont know if thats a chain or not.  anyway, you buy this credit card type thing with so many points or chips (basically just credits for games instead of quarters) so when you want to play a game you just swipe the card by the game.  they have regular stuff like tekken, daytona usa, etc.

but as i was walking through i see a 4 player cab with the Ultracade marquee.  ah!  gaaaaaaaaaay.  i wanted to tear it down.  anyway, some of the games it had were:

Street Figther 2 Turbo
Street Figther 2
Ghouls N' Ghosts
Galaga
Commando

it had about 20 games total, and i cant remember all the games.  the interface was simple, you just browse to the marquee of your choice of game, and it would show a video (similar if not exactly like mame movie maker).  i dont know if anyone else has seen these, but it sucked to see all the games this guy is making money off of everyone can get in other ways.

I was at a movie theater last night, and they have a maachine with Ultracade on the marquee...only have one game on it...some sort of fish tank game...looked like a uninteresting game...I stuck to House of the Dead...

Galaga eh? You should call the operator and tell them that Ultracade needs to replace his hardware (free of charge of course) since they don't have any rights to put Namco games in their cabs. Ultrachode legally should have recalled all their machines that carried any Namco stuff and replaced them.

This is one of their new redemption games. It is an Ultracade original and it sucks hard. Funny thing is if you watch the credits, creative contributors like David Foley and others.

They don't make any money anyway. Talked to one of the service guys at my Dave & Busters a while back. The worst earning game there is the new Space Invaders, followed by Ultracade, followed by some fighter (might have been Tekken 4???).

I'll put it this way, I posted a crappy 150,000 point score on the Robotron high score table on that machine nearly 3 years ago.

That score is still there today!!!

The guy who runs it is a dirtbag who has done all sorts of shady things. He tried trademarking the MAME name (a program he had nothing to do with) so he could erase all competition, collect money off the MAME name, and do all sorts of other things to hurt the community. He gets in touch with Ebay to have all MAME cabinet auctions removed.

He's a jerk.

Interesting that it had many Capcom games on it. I would have thought that would violate Capcom's agreement with Hanaho.

Haul that machine outside, pour gas on it and light it on fire... or better yet slap mame side art on the sides, put up a mame marquee and put a computer in it running mame for FREE!! ;)
WTB: The Grid by Midway (2001), looking for 2 or more complete games, and large marquee
