You just named two wide genres of conversion games, they used every 8-way joystick on the market.

I would say happ super joystick.Supers use leaf switchs so motions are smooth.Then again any 8 way stick should work just as good for scroll beat up and shooters.

The last pair of Happ Supers I bought had Cherry Microswitches.  My Wicos, on the other hand, are leafswitch joys.

Happ Supers use leaf actuators and microswitches, as Markrvp said.
