  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
steering wheels
« on: May 27, 2005, 11:50:59 pm »
Guys,

Im thinking of a 4 player 360 steering Cab. "i just love throwing the wheel in a spin", the questions is, is there any current console wheel that might do the job, i saw an xbox wheel and pedal combo for $50, 4 of these(laughing) but not 360, maybe can be modified, or are there some arcade ones out there for the right price. Love to hear from someone whos been here before.

Thanks

To my knowledge there are no console wheels that are 360.

Your best bet is to find a three wheel CP on ebay.
That's how Kremmit and I both did it.

I haven't actually hooked everything up yet because I still need to build the cab I'm going to put them in, and just got the monitor for it.

The only games I can think of that would use the fourth wheel are Sprint 4 and Sprint 8, btw.

Actually, I bought my Off-Road cab from a BYOAC user- after I had already picked up some ebay wheels.  (have to put those up for sale, one of these days..)

Not much point in doing 4 wheels, like the man said, practically no games support that many.  (add Indy 800 to that list!)  I'd just do three.  (Actually, I am!)

As for consoles, since they're all 270 deg games, you can't really use 360 wheels with them, so stick with MAME games if you like the 360 wheel feel.

I'm not aware of any way to make a 360 deg wheel play 270 deg games.  At least not one that plays well.

And Hot Rod and Destruction Derby.  FWIW, the latter one of my kidhood favorites, and why I got into mame. :D

So that's 5 reasons (if you don't include warloads). ;)

Does anyone have quick and easy access to a list of the 270 and 360 wheel games that MAME supports that they can post here (I say quick and easy because I can probably find out myself, but if someone has it to hand then...)?
