Popcorn Recomendations

I'm not sure how many of us have popcorn machines in their game rooms, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

Can anyone recommend a movie theatre quality popcorn kit for a 6oz kettle (popcorn machine)?
 I've been using the kits available at Smart and Final which seem to always come out spongy and the flavor just isn't there.

A commercial food supplier to theaters can sell you the normal 50 pound sack of theater popcorn. Be sure to cook the corn in either canolla or coconut oil.

When I popped popcorn for our Student Council run concession stand in high school, I used coconut oil along with the buttery popcorn salt in the kettle popper....  worked great! 

Hate to say it tho but it's been 15 years since I've even thought about using a kettle popper again......

Sometimes they sell big buckets of popcorn(seeds),
popcorn flavored salt, and buttery oil.

I was a concessionaire at a theater in the 90s, and we used coconut oil and that really fine(like powder) popcorn salt.  You can't go wrong with that combo even though coconut oil is really bad for you.

I recently got a 6 oz. popcorn machine for my wife, I've learned a lot in the last month or two about this.

I hear that MegaPop (sometimes called Pop Weaver) is the kind of kernels that you'd like to get.

You probably want to use Flavacol salt, they have a standard and premier option.  You can get a quart for about $2.50.

Oil can be tricky.  Peanut oil was really good for us and caramel popcorn.  I think overall for the price I'd use canola oil.  There's a reason taht everyone wants to use coconut oil -- I think it's best overall.  However apparently it's really bad for you to use partially hydrogenated oil, you know if you care.  =)  Problem is, pure coconut oil that I've found from health food stores runs about $9.00 for 13-15 batches of popcorn.  Not exactly cheap.  Anyhow, I'm rambling.

Check out www.ht-express.com, that's the site I've found to be the most friendly and informative for my needs.  I'm still looking for a local distributor for this kind of thing, shipping can be expensive.

Pure coconut oil isn't partially hydronated (which is VERY bad for you).  It just has a high solidifying temperature (in which it stays solid at higher temperatures).
