I have a Marvel Vs capcom cabinet and the Control pannel is just really falling apart at the ends..., and it would look better with a new CP, anyone?

Aren't Dynamo panels made of solid steel?   ???

Yeah Dynamo panels are steel. Is it rusting? Are you talking about some sort of plexi covering?

yeah steel... >.< hehe, any way the plexi is riped in areas and it seems too bent downward... other than that its a little sticky on the outside and is being held togetther under it with Electrical tape... it is a litle rusty on the edges

Unless it's rusted through, you can probably polish that thing up with a dremel.

You might be able to find replacement plexi online, but your best bet it to buy some and bend it yourself. I know it's a tricky task, but a heat gun isn't too expensive, and neither is plexi.

What sort of overlay do you have? You should probably...

1.) get a heat gun ($15)
2.) remove the control panel and take off all the plexi and remove the overlay (with  the heat gun, if necessary)
3.) polish portions of the control panel that are still showing (like the triangular sides portions) with a dremel
4.) bend yourself a new piece of plexi, using the control panel as a guide. just get it hot with the heat gun and it'll start bending
5.) paint the showing portions of the control panel or add a new overlay
6.) attatch your plexi on top

If you're gonna bend your own plexi, do it BEFORE you make the control panel all nice and pretty again, but AFTER you've cleaned it. You don't really need plexi, either. Operators add it for durability, but if you're not going to abuse the machine then you really don't need it. It doesn't need to be idustrial strength. It just needs to be idiot-proof.

I only recommend fixing it over buying a new one because I think you're gonna have a hard time finding a new one that's better than the one you have.

  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
I am in the process of rebuilding a Dynamo myself.  I removed the plexi, used a heat gun to remove the overlay, then used a belt sander to get the THICK adhesive off.  Worked like a Charm.  Now I'll be having it sandblasted, paint the sides, then install a new overlay and plexi and BANGO!  It's done.  It's real easy!  The belt sander will even remove the rust.

I had a similar issue with a Data East metal control panel. Sorry, that an ancient project and I've got no pictures.

Maybe a day late and a dollar short, but I saw this and thought of this thread from a few days ago.

I'm in the process of actually re-finishing my brother's Dynamo control panel today. I'll try to document in pictures.

I've already attacked the CP with a heat gun, though. The old overlay is already history. I didn't use a BBQ pit like that guy from the link in the previous thread. I used a heat gun.

Check out the before and after pictures of the Project: Blue on my site.  I don't have any work photos, but it's a dynamo cab that I fixed the CP on.  I didn't have any extra holes in it, though.
