i-pac and Opti pac problems
« on: May 17, 2005, 06:38:47 pm »
I've had this problem before and i'm totally lost with it. I have the I-pac2 and opti pac which both work fine seperately but as soon as both are plugged in, popup menues appear everywhere the curser moves. I've tried everything i can think off (except on a different comp), i'm lost.

Running WinXP SP1 on an A-Open (AX45-V) mobo, 2.4 GH with 512MB Ram.

Any suggestions.

I hate to say it... I GIVE UP! lol. This has been ongoing for 10 months, and all i've got is a $450 ornament that sits in the corner of the room. I'm surprised that I am the only one who has had a problem like this, which tells me the problem is on my end. I'm stumpted, but I think I may have a solution... a 20lb sledgehammer. LOL Just Frustrated.

Windows menus appear?  You're using a trackball to move the cursor?
Not pressing any buttons?

What program is loaded when you see the problem?  I have a similar problem that I have narrowed down to the Ultrastyle Frontend.

If not, that sounds like a Windows problem or perhaps the HID information sent by the I-pac & Optipac are conflicting?  To troubleshoot, I would try both on a different computer.  If that works, then I would try a different OS on your cab (98SE maybe).

I don't know, I'm making a WAG.

funny....I am having the exact same problem when in usb mode..

Can't get the thing working at all in serial mode...

I was actually thinking of just spending the 42 bucks and getting the usb/ps2 converter for happ trackballs that replaces the boards and works with existing trackball...

http://www.happcontrols.com/trackballs/56011300k.htm

has anyone used this?

Still no luck i've tried several os including 9x 2k and xp with sp1 and 2, and the same thing. I've got no usb conflicts or errors. The Opti pac and I-pac both work fine (no problems), but as soon as both are attached at the same time, i enter popup menue hell (same as right clicking a menue). I virtually can't do a thing until i unplug 1 device. I have several usb devices with absolutly no problems at all. Just these teo devices. I've checked the bios and no problems and checked for updates but theres no mention of usb, so i don't know.

I'm running WinXp Sp1 with Mame32 Plus! 0.80u1. The problem occures outside of mame, as soon as devices are attached.

It seems like a usb problem or a mouse driver problem, but this one has me stumped. I just don't see anything wrong with either. Ten years repairing comps and this one has me baffled. Maybe a serial cable for the Opti pac... I don't know!

Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

What do the pop-up menu's say?  (or does it vary).

What (if anything) is connected to the I-PAC and Opti-Pac?  Specifically, is any button connected to BOTH the mouse buttons and an I-PAC button?

Pretty much WAG's here also.

Tiger-Heli... Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. You are the man. You were right it was a button connected to both devices, as soon as I disconnected the player 1 button on the Opti Pac everything works perfect.

The Opti Pac had player 1 button attached to I-Pac Coin 1. That's what happens when you have to play Tempest before everything is fully connected. DOH! Stupid I know.

I thought I was losing my mind on this one, I tried everything and checked the wiring so many times that it got redicious. I posted here, asked friends and even spoke with Andy and no luck until now. I was 6 months without Internet and my CP just sat there, I thought I would never get to use it.

Thank you all for your kind posts and listening to me cry and rant. I really appreciate it. And again Tiger-Heli thank you so much for putting me on to the problem.

Glad you got it working, but you're giving me WAY too much credit.  That was just the only thing that came to mind when you said that either device worked fine on it's own, but not when connected together.

Not at all you deserve it... I racked my bains for so long and as soon as you said mentioned the button attached to both devices i remembered playing tempest. So you do deserve the credit you and Jody sent me in the right direction. That's all it took. So thank you.
