Analog PC controllers that hack well
« on: May 13, 2005, 06:46:35 pm »
Somebody asked about how to interface a positonal gun in another thread, and I realized that all anybody ever says is "Dual-Strike", "Dual-Strike" and "Dual-Strike".

I know there are other controllers that have been successfully hacked, but which ones are they?  It'd be nice to create a list of known "hack-friendly" controllers, as there won't be Dual Strikes on ebay forever.  Any PC controller that uses 5k pots should be hack-friendly.

So, anybody that's hacked an analog arcade controller to an analog PC controller, or has a PC controller they know to be hackable, please post the make and model, and a picture if you can.

And as long as we're at it, if you know of any console controllers that use 5k pots, post about those as well, and that should help folks trying to interface an arcade controller with their X-Box, PS2, etc.

I'll start the whole thing off, too.  First, by pointing out the two commercial interface products already available to interface analog arcade controllers.  Folks not wanting to hack a PC controller can buy either:

The Aki from Dave:
http://dave.bit2000.com/aki.html

The A-Pac from Ultimarc:
http://www.ultimarc.com/a-pac.html

Either of these can interface pretty much any analog controller with a PC, with support for 5k, 10k, and 100k pots.

And I suppose there ought to be a picture of a Dual Strike controller here, too:

And here's a link to 1UP's excellent Dual Strike Hack page:
