"The Shack" doesn't carry floppy connectors
« on: May 11, 2005, 04:52:30 pm »
Hey, just today I got my order from RandyT at Groovy Game Gear.  That was fantastic, since I just ordered last Sunday.  However, I went to Radio Shack and they said they didn't have floppy connectors.

"They look weird," said the salesman.  He might be actually studying Electrical Engineering, since this is a college town.   OK, sorry if this has already been asked, but I wonder if anyone can point me in the best direction as to where to buy one of these dohickeys.  I will check the attic tonight for an old IBM that might be floating around.  I'm assuming that I can just rip one out of any old computer.  OK, will post more soon, but must go for now.

Cheers,
KenToad

Any "computer" store should have them.

Agreed, any computer store.  If you just need one small one, go to some small place that builds computers and offer them like 50 cents to a dollar for one.  Worked for me, I needed alot of screws (didnt come with my new case :( )

That's funny.  We only have one computer store, and I didn't even remember that until you guys said that, because their prices are so crappy that I never go there anymore.  Tomorrow, I'll go see if they're still open.

27 bars
13 pizza delivery places
1 computer store with a very limited selection

I love how I can find almost any beer in the world here, but have to hunt to find a floppy connector.

Cheers,

Not really a problem.
You can order computer parts over the internet.

Try that with beer, or firearms, sometime.

A year or so ago, I posted asking if anyone wanted these, as I had the opportunity to get some really cheaply.  Not one person said a word.  Funny thing is, I see people wanting them at least once a week.

A year or so ago, they would have only been used on the Mini-PAC, MK64 or Hagstrom encoders (latter two - $$$$), now they are needed for it, the KeyWiz Eco, GP-Wiz Eco, GP-Wiz49, etc.

I got mine at CompUSA. I believe it was labeled as a hard drive cable.

Any hard drive cable or floppy cable will work, but the floppy has fewer pins, so it's shorter in length.

I'm planning to use some 13 pin connectors like those used on the rotary interface from Happ(item# 96-1000-00).

I'm not actually buying theirs, but ordered some from the internet to include in my 49-way rotary adapter kit.

I'm tossing 2 in each kit so you can use 1 for druin's and 1 for your 49-way Joy.

The 49-way PCB only uses a 12 pin connector (11 of which have connections) but the 13 pin adapter's extra 'hang over' is hardly noticable.

Whoops!  I was thinking of the *power* connector, not the data cable.
